Listen Up: I just hired a Family Law attorney. He asked me who my ex's lawyer was back in the day. I replied "Lanae Austin." He then informed me about a lot of stuff I've read in this site, plus a bit more. He related there were significant substance abuse issues involved in her poor performance/client issues. *Possibly* prescription pain killers / alcohol. Some sites list her as "good to go" but the AK Bar says her status is "Disability." It's hard to find a good lawyer! Go the the AK Bar website and learn. Complaints of certain natures are only available by phoning - that number is on the site.

Just so everyone is aware. She has once again changed her name. She is now going by Lanae Rain Richards. Don't be fooled. She has a habit of changing her name quit often.

I too was taken to the cleaners by Lanae, wish I had done some more checking on her background. I started a motion to modify my custody agreement to get visitation schedule established for seeing my children. Lanae was a bullet out of the gate then died once she had my $5000.00 retainer fee. I finally got the court to consider a modification and she dropped the ball after my ex-wife and I had worked out a basic visitation agreement. Lanae does not return phone calls, e-mails and fails to communicate in a responsible and professional manner. I hope she gets what is coming to her after all she put me through.

Charged me $100 for consultation. Never returned phone calls or emails, and would always have and excuse as to why something had not been done. (Word is that she has been suspended.)

Wow, sure wished I had found this site before I hired her. She has not returned any of my phone calls for weeks, no responds to my email either, you get answers at her office off and on, but she's never available, you leave a message and hear no reply. I've had to call the court house myself to find our when hearing and trial dates are. She promised to file motions and send documents, but have not done so for months now. I am at my witts end with this one. It's going to cost me more money now to hire another lawyer. Stay clear of this one people.

Live in Mo. had to have legal rep. in AK. What a nightmare! No communication, was not informed of court dates, therefor missed them. Took my $5000. for retainer and kept it. Absolutly no legal representation. Sent no copies of court proceedings. NOTHING! NO HELP! Ditto, check with bar asso. prior to hireing an atty. Lost case and am having to appeal with no atty. to help. Cant afford another, spent life savings on Lanae. Hear for court sys. she is filling bankruptsy and sounds like she has split the county to Canada. What a gal.

my daughter called me crying her husband is a silver star hero of afghanistan and 4 tours in iraq and going back in july. this lawyer took 4000.$ and hasn't done anything.not even show up to repersent her yet.she is living on the edge when she treats her clients like this.

Absolutely a horrible experience!!! I wish I had called the AK State Bar first. I will never make that mistake again. Also check court records in Anchorage.

She wasent my attorney but was my ex husbands. She worked for him for free but you get what you pay for. If my attorney didnt suck so muck it may have been a god sent but it only turned into more expence for me. Did not seem interested in responding to any requests from my attorney or the court for that matter. Really drug out the whole thing.
