Karen was assigned counsel in a simple visitation/custody petition. She did not communicate and was anything but an advocate of my interests. When she did take the time to discuss anything with me, she did not uphold what we discussed when making deals. She spent most time trying to avoid trial than spend any advocating my rights. We would agree on terms and then she would make arrangements with the respondents attorney that did reflect what we discussed.

I retained Kanen Smith Callanan to handle a QDRO. In the beginning she was ok but then became totally uncommunative. I was not kept informed. She never returned phone messages or responded to email or letters. She totally mishandled the QDRO which cost me thousands of dollars. I filed a complaint with the Monroe County Bar Assn. and she didn't even respond to them.

I was so glad to hear the review by the other person. I have been waiting for three years for my divorce to be finalized and don't feel I have received anything for my money. I don't feel Ms. Callanan has been my 'advocate', but that I have made concessions to get the process completed...and yet I'm still waiting. The process started in a friendly manner, but I have not received any favorable RESULTS. I'm ready to file a formal complaint.

In my case, unresponsive, uncommunicative, unproactive, unstrategic, unaccountable. Ms. Callanan failed to respond to calls and e-mails from both me and my personal attorney for DAYS. Failed BY MONTHS to depose my ex- on his finances before the deadline set by the judge, and to my knowledge didn't even ATTEMPT to file an extension. Showed surprise that there wasn't a court reporter in a meeting where I was told by her the deposition was to occur -- The court reporter, I was told later by another attorney, would normally have been HER responsibility to arrange as the deposing attorney. She never apologized - just sort of chalked it up to the nature of the game, and my ex-went unchallenged. On at least one or two occasions there would have been NO preparatory discussion prior to a hearing except I insisted on it. I spent nearly $20,000 and effectively feel I got cheated on virtually every term of the divorce. Among the "un-"s I can now attribute to Ms. Callanan: unrecommended.
