Joedy is my uncle, and he helped me twice like a champion both times with my lying, cheating ex wife. He certainly does not suffer ignorant or ridiculous people. He is incredibly busy all the time, and if you do not understand how the legal system works (or rather: DOESNT WORK), he does not offer legal education - so don't even think for a second that he is going to do so. Joedy is in a profession that constantly deals with liars and ignoramouses who have no idea how the legal process works. When I see all these angry, misspelled words and complete lack of understanding how bureaucracy works, I can fully see why he's not calling back: He's not your dad - he's just a lawyer. Anybody with a basic understanding of the process will tell you that he is a badass, and that he does not trifle with idiots.

Hired him for living trust case after 1st atty did nothing & was unresponsive. Joedy was to immediately pass critical documents to opposing atty that the 1st atty didn't do. After 2 months & multiple attempts to contact Joedy, I wrote a demand letter. He called ASAP with excuses. One hour later, he called to say the docs were emailed but never sent me proof nor CCed me in the email. Over next 16 mos, I never heard from him & and had to call many times. He never sent any accounting of his time against my retainer. I fired him when opposing atty threatened to sue me for lack of response & hired another atty, who got matter settled within 6 weeks, but at great cost to me because Joedy had neglected to respond to her letter of more than a year earlier! He never told me nor sent a copy of that letter. He was always rude and aggressive on the phone, answering my questions with an angry question back at me. To date, he refuses to provide an accounting of his time or to return my retainer.

Joedy is a flat out liar. Did absolutely nothing to represent me in front of Social Services on a false Domestic Violence charge. Received retainer upfront and kept over 1/2 of it for doing absolutely nothing. He fabricated stories saying I missed appointments and was the cause for his lack of action. He does not return phone calls. He has severe mental problems.

I'm really amazing at all the negative reviews Joedy has on this site. My experience has been almost exactly the opposite. He's represented me for about 3 years in everything from a restraining order hearing, divorce proceedings, child support and spousal support. His knowledge of law, and the way he presents himself in the courtroom at times is nothing short of incredible. During all this time, I've seen other lawyers come up to him for advice, even judges and pro-tem judges have come up asking for his opinion on legal matters. I think that really says a lot about him to see the respect and deference he's given by his peers. I have no problem recommending Joedy at all.

EVERYTHING THAT IS SAID ABOUT MR. DEFRANK IS TRUE! I hired him to do a quadro and some family law issues. 2 years later my quadro was still not done. He does not return phone calls or emails. He is also very unprofessional and has no morals to take people's money for a service that he does not provide.

This man shows clear signs of some sort of mental illness. He needs help, and is potentially dangerous to clients, especially women. He took my files and when I said I did not want to work with him demanded I pay to have my files returned to me. I had no contract with him and he never asked for any money before my FREE CONSULT. He became verbally abusive and threatening. I filed a police report with the Sacramento Sheriff's office (yes really) as demanding money from me under threat of destroying my records is extortion. and have sent in a report to the Bar. I hope he can get counseling or help for whatever is wrong with him. But until then beware. He is volatile and willing to break the law to get money from you. The CPA's where he rents and office finally gave me back my records the next day.I am very upset and traumatized by this even four days later.

It's very sad to read all these reviews because I can say it's very true! In my experience with him, he is exactly how everyone says in here. He's flakey, unprofessional, ignorant. If you have him for an attorney, you're better off saving your money and might as well represent yourself because he does absolutely nothing. I almost want to say he is a scam. Joedy failed me immensely with a child custody evaluator who he set me up with and forever changed the course of my children's life because he never advised me. Then I lost custody of my children to the other parent. Then he had the audacity to ask even more money because I already lost my case to go to trial. That's a scam right there! I fired him at that point and it was like pulling teeth to have him remove of my case. Like everyone here says, he delay and lag.

I would never recommend this attorney. My ex has failed to help support our child for the last 6 years when he was able to get 50/50 custody and proceeded to go after me for child support after he lost yet another job I retained Mr. DeFrank and he has done absoutely nothing. He showed up to court completely unprepared. Made no arguments that my ex was unemployed by choice and living off of his now wife then girlfriend. He took my retainer did nothing for my case never filed a single motion. Here I am 9 months later and my case is exactly the same if not worese than it was before. He is NEVER available and NEVER returns phone calls, rarely responds to emails. He scheduled court dates twice without informing until 2-3 days before the court date. There are issues, concerns, questions that I have asked him multiple times over 9 months that he has failed to answer nor act on. I would look else where!

Does not return calls promptly. Got paid in full (retainer fee plus more)and has not done anything for me since. Although, I have physical custody of my kids, there is no legal document on file stating who has custody. When I ask for documentation, Mr DeFrank evaded my question by saying, "you got custody, were'nt going back to court for custody". Since the ex knows this, he plans to take me back to court for custody. Mr. DeFrank negociated 120 days of house arrest. Per a superior court judge, that was far too much for what I did. I have been waiting since April 2013 for a settlement court date. I have called Mr DeFrank several times since April 2013. When he did return my call, he says, "still waiting to be put on the Family Law court calendar". I don't believe it takes more than 6 mos to be put on the court's calendar, even it the date was next year. As of today, I still haven't heard from him. TODAY, I FIRED HIM!!!

Joedy is a horrible lawyer. never return phone calls or emails unless he wants money. I almost lost my kids because of this lawyer. he agreed to my ex's attorney demands without even talking to me first. I paid this attorney over $5,000 just to have to fire him and go get a new attorney. don't use thIs lawyer you will be disappointed

What makes Joedy Defrank a lawyer not to recommend?
1. He never follows through without constant monitoring and prodding
2. Uses the age old - needs more money after you figured out a ballpark range for payment
3. you have to HOUND him to update you on ANYTHING
4. He never provides you with copies (said he would get my final divorce notice, never did)
5. avoids you AND your calls
6. 31 year in the business and he showed me he was just going through the motions (no pun intended)
7. Most importantly, you are but a number and the services provided were not even the bare minimum.
I know this now only because I used Joedy DeFrank's services and went through the whole divorce process and learned the hard way. If I save one person with this review, then it's one less heartache and scary rollercoaster with a lawyer that won't have your back when you need it most.
There are decent ones out there. I cannot recommend Joedy Paul Defrank as one of them.

Joedy assured me that 2 Quadros could be completed in 3 weeks tops for a flat fee of $2000. Joedy misplaced docs causing me to retrieve and resend them to him and of course only informing me of this after I called him. After reading other complaints on this site, the slow or no response by Joedy Defrank is a consistent theme. I told Joedy that I had retired and needed these Quadros completed to receive my pension benefits. He missed his own max estimated delivery date by over 4 months. Then, when I was borrowing money from friends and family to survive while waiting on my pension benefits and after him being 4 months late, Joedy asks for an additional $500. I fired him. The next company was able to complete the work (2 Quadros) in 1 week! I asked for a full refund as well as a copy of my file. I never received either. Joedy offered me one quarter of what I paid him. I refused.

Gave 1k, needed another $1.7k to get started. I decided not to aggressively go after my wife and in-laws and deal with the problems outside of court. He gave me papers i never filled out. For a month he wanted me to give him the rest of the money as i said repeatedly I wasn't comfortable aggressively going after my x-family. another month requesting money back i finally had to call my credit card company to file a complaint. He never returned my phone calls and i called him at least 4 - 6 times requesting my money back. Even if he kept some money for the brief 10 minutes we talked and he handed me a bunch of papers to fill out i would have been fine. He may be aggressive and mean but make sure u have all of your money up front and you want to knockout your spouse in court and everyone else involved. I don't know how good he is otherwise or total value if u use him. I just know what happens if you decide to back out. Knowledge, Work, and Value i must put something, using 2 & 3 of 5

JOEdy stopped calling me. So when I finally called the courthouse to find out if I was divorced, they told me that I was unrepresented. JOEdy you want to return my retainer of $2000 since you didn't do anything. Thanks JOEdy. I am sick of trying to get a hold of you, so I'll just leave messages around the net!

Joedy has handled several family matters for me in the past-he is knowledgeable and friendly. He returned my calls promptly and I would recommend him to any of my family and friends. He helped me through a very difficult time.

Mr. DeFrank did a great job on my case. He knew the law very well and informed me of the progress of my case and my legal options throughout the process. I achieved a very good outcome that I was very happy about. I would recommend him to anyone needing legal help.

Joedy De Frank does not return phone calls, doesnt file the right papers, delays/continues a hearing on his time. I would not recommend this attorney, as I have paid out more by just having him involved with my case. He is also rated F on BBB and has several complaints about over charging people. He has sanctions against him too. Google his name and you will find all this to be true.

Joedy was very bad about keeping me informed about what was going on. It seemed that I had to send documents to him more then once and still be told he did not have them. He is very personable and easy to talk to when you can reach him. I really feel that he needs better support staff to keep things in order for him. I really would not recommend him if you want to get the job done right the first time. It really is wrong when you pay someone to take care of a simple case and you find out it was not done correctly so you have to pay another attorney to correct the errors.

He rarely returns calls, He took over a month to file our case with the courts. and then he did not file the final papers need for the judge to sign in our case. we are currently looking for a new attorney to complete what I paid good money for Joedy to do. I would not recommend him to anyone.
