Ethics: Extremely Poor; It would appear John Connolly has made a practice out of bleeding his clients dry and then sending them an inflated bill (without services charged for listed) and then wihtdrawing when they don't pay what they do not owe him in the first place. After paying him $7000. to represent me in a custody suit, he claimed I owed him another $5000. or he would withdraw. He did! and had his partner in practice go before the judge to withdraw on his behalf. Not only did he withdraw as my counsel, he retired from practicing law. It really is a wonder how he is able to stand upright--without a backbone to support him. To date I have no idea what he was charging me for because he did nothing in the way of advocating for me. In fact, for all he advised of me, from an outsider's perspective, it would appear he was representing the opposing party. John Connolly is severely lacking in professional ethics and personal integrity. It is unfortunate that he did not retire sooner.

This attorney was retained to prosecute a change in custody from an out-of-State order to a non-parental custodian. John Connolly failed to file the proper documents to legitimize the foreign order and came to all hearings unprepared to argue the case. This attorney exhausted his $3,000 retainer on unproductive and uneducated efforts that failed in court, and then wanted $4,000 more to correct his own errors. Client refused to pay more money, Connolly withdrew from the case and remains unpaid for the excessive charges he claimed. Client prosecuted the case on her own and won on all counts. She proved the custodian was unfit, mentally unbalanced, and damaging the children. In his pre-order statement from the bench, the judge stated he saw everything the mother was stating to be true, saw the resulting damage to the children, and found it unconscionable that the retained professional attorney "lacked ethics". The mother won what Connolly could not do.

I retained Mr. Connolly to handle my divorce case. He was recommended to my by a co-worker. Mr. Connolly's services are not cheap, but he did a very satisfactory job of handling my case. As far as his knowledge of family law, I am convinced he is at the top of his game. For thoroughness and communication with the client and the opposing attorney I give him high marks. He was not a pushover at all, and I came out of the debaucle a lot better than I thought I would when I was concerned for the welfare of my children. I will retain him again without a second thought.
