We trusted David Chalk (Immigration Lawyer - Montreal) to help my girlfriend find a way to stay in Canada after she was removed as a dependent from her ex-husband's original application. After he helped packaged the new application, it was left in hus care to submit to Canadian federal authorities on our behalf, and to represent the case going forward. Several months went by, after not hearing from him about our case despite repeated calls, we called immigration authorities ourselves and learned our application was never received! The error also caused my girlfriend to lose her existing work permit... and for the next two years she was unable to work in Canada until approved for her "new" immigration application. She had to rely on savings to survive as she no longer could legally work to support herself. David Chalk gave us every excuse... in the end Canadian immigration repeatedly confirmed the error was simply due to the fact the application was never received.
