Howard represented me a few years ago. The divorce lasted about a year and there were many difficult days with a very difficult ex. When I first contacted Howard I felt like I needed someone with a great courtroom reputation and although we settled before it got to trial I was very pleased with the outcome. Sure it cost me thousands of dollars but looking back I was able to keep my house and custody of our child. Over the next 15 years he made suggestions for solving conflicts that occurred with very little out of pocket expense. Friends who used him for their divorce were also satisfied with their results except for one person. I will never forget the one court date where he was able to use his skill and knowledge to have trumped up criminal charges dismissed, with the judge issuing a strong statement against my ex. The next week a settlement agreement was sent to Howard's office through my ex's attorney for my perusal. A couple of months later we had an agreement

Run!!! Run away! Howard does not care about you! Only cares about money. He purposely drew out my case to two years and $17000!!! $17,000+.. I was 27 at the time of the case and I was NEVER EVEN MARRIED and my case IS STILL GOING TWO YEARS LATER. When I hired him he sent SIX different lawyers all of which knew nothing about my case. When I wanted to finally just settle he tried withdrawing from my case ON A COURT DATE! No warning, didnt tell me why, No communication! Just said he was withdrawing. I was sobbing in the middle of the court room, not only was I being attacked from my son's father, my lawyer was attacking me from the other side and didn't tell me why. When the judge told him he couldn't withdraw (Because he had no good reason) He tried being a fake nice and still TWO years in.. knew nothing about my case.
...... I told him I wanted him FIRED! Which took two more 6 court dates. Run.... run far far away.....

Had this lawyer for my divorce which took a year to get done and cost me $20,000 then had to go back to court due to my spiteful ex and went back to this attorney because he knew my case the motions were filed in 2011 and now in 2015 I had a bill of over 20,00 again and I never have gone before the judge in the past 4 years. He let this case drag out for 4 years with continuance after continuance and I finally dropped him and became my own lawyer. His firm has a bunch of morons working for him and they will just keep billing you to rack up the bills.

Stay away! Howard might have been good 10-20 years ago, but past his prime. Unbelievable amount of padding on the bill. I believe if you have a high net worth, he will make sure and "gouge" you on hours billed.

I had an initial consult with him, turned in paper work requested; then put the whole process on hold due to unforeseen circumstances. My contract stated that I would receive my unused retainer, but I cannot get anyone in the firm to respond to my requests by phone, email or registered letter for the unused portion of my retainer. How is this not breach of contract? He was highly recommended by a friend but I would advise anyone to find someone else because of his refusal to return money to which he is not entitled.

As reading these other reviews (except for the positive one)i felt like i was describing my own experience with him. I was racked up charges and nothing was done i ended up finishing the divorce on my own and was taken to court by the firm. I wasn't so lucky as a 50/50 i had to bay 75% of my remaining bill. I wouldn't send my worse enemy to this firm. There assistants couldn't even fill out the paperwork in the court room they had to have my ex husbands lawyer help them. My ex husbands lawyer use to work for this firm and left because they where stealing peoples money. I wish i would have reviewed this site before i hired him. well live and learn,

This attorney is the epitome of who you should NOT hire. The judge is constantly telling him to stop talking, as he is always yapping and throwing around false accusations. He drags your case on and on to accumulate billable hours and preys on your assets and what you have, as they will likely become his. He will be a cheerleader, telling you what you will get and how you deserve this and that, but in the end, you will only get what the Judge states you will get and he will rob you of your assets. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!!!

Poor communication regarding my case, as billable hours were incurred... not to my knowledge...even though I requested in writing I be informed of pending charges and I provide approval before services were provided. Charged for discovery which was never completed, charged for case delays which were caused by his schedule conflicts, charged for line items on the bill that are unexplained. Never received estimate of costs or up-to-date invoicing as was my right per the engagement agreement. In short...was charged thousands of dollars and nothing delivered. Settled the case myself with the other party. Contested LeVine charges with the Court, who did a 50/50 split. Buyer beware...

EXCELLENT DIVORCE ATTORNEY. HAS BEEN IN THE BUSINESS OVER 30+ YEARS AND KNOWS THE SYSTEM, COURTS, JUDGES AND OTHER COMPETING ATTORNEYS. HAS TO IMPROVE ON CALLING CLIENTS BACK IN TIMLY FASHION. BUT IF YOU NEED A REAL FIGHTER FOR YOU AND YOUR RIGHTS, HE IS EXCELLENT. GREAT REPUTATION IN COOK AND WILL COUNTY. VERY WELL RESPECTED.
