I was not a client of this lawyer but, rather, one that sat on the other side of the table in a child custody dispute. When her client, my wife's ex-husband, declared bankruptcy, she went after us for his legal fees -- two years after the case was initially heard and without giving us any notice at all (in court papers, however, she claimed she had).
Because we weren't there, she won a judgement against us. Of course, when I sought legal counsel after the fact, I was told there was probably nothing I could do about it. Meanwhile, her client, who has sought to make our lives miserable ever since he and my wife divorced, pays $200 a month in child support for two children.
