retainer fee upfront. No communication regarding receipt of documents and plan to review. Lawyer reviewed 1400+ documents without notifying writer. I would have deferred review to later date. 2nd dispute: Writer charged $475 /hour for a document not usable as evidence. Fee ethics questioned as doc was no value to client. No fee waved as “services were rendered” Council/firm took offense to questioning. Fired me eight calendar days before our next hearing. The firm did not even ask me if I wanted to pursue council. I told them I did not agree with their billing but I would continue to pay as the other work performed was good quality. They withdrew just shy of exhausted $15,000 retainer. My reservations re: review of 1400 + docs in the case were justified as info was never used. I thought it was sheepish to withdraw from my case without a discussion regarding disagreement in fees. Poor display of assertiveness, compassion & accountability.
