Her bad law practices contributed to the death of my son during a recent court proceeding in a divorce despite knowing that his mental state was fragile...she had every opportunity to to postpone the court hearing and continue to work the case outside of court but choose not to. I can never get my son back now .

The "bad" things that are said about this atty ARE FACTS. From the deceiving act she presents on the first meeting to her disappearance after the checks are cashed. This atty will be a waste of your time AND MONEY. She is selfish and does not care to fulfill her obligations as a paid atty. She will handle personal calls while you are paying her for her time. She will speak of other cases to you. She will make ANY AND ALL excuses for NOT DOING her job. Do NOT make the same mistake I made as well as the other people of this forum have. Divorce/custody battles are very stressful. I hope you are able to seek proper counsel. DO NOT HIRE ALONZO.... I guarantee that hiring her will just be an added stress to you during this difficult time. Best of luck.

Valerie did a tremendous job helping my wife retain custody of her children when the ex husband tried to get custody of them. When we had difficulties from my wifes original lawyer striving to achieve the outcome we wanted, we were recommended to Valerie who stepped in and did a tremendous job through her knowledge of the law, the system and the judges at the courthouse. She always communicated with us before going forward and is very animated in the courtroom. I would recommend her to anyone that is looking for an attorney that cares.

Whoever left that last comment is clearly either her or a friend of hers. I have researched her ratings on numerous different sites and that is the ONLY positive rating she has received on any of them. While some of the reviews are not the most articulate, they all tell the same story and it is EXACTLY what I experienced myself. She is HORRIBLE. I wish there was a way to make that bold to emphasize just how bad she is. Zero communication at all. Professional misconduct by not carrying out all of her duties to me as a client. She made sure she was taken care of in her divorce, but does most certainly not extend that care and concern to her clients cases. Please beware and do not use her.

The previous reviews seem to be from the same person. Grammatical errors and incorrect spellings are consistent in their message. Could it relate to the credibility of the source? I think so. Valerie has represented me twice. She has also represented many friends. My son is not only taken care of through the age of 18 but also for college thanks to her. I will always recommend her. And to the idiot that criticizes her for picking up her children from school...shame on you. She is an excellent mother for putting her children first. I won't comment on her being sick other than I'd like for you to be handed the difficulties she has dealt with in the past and come out a survivor. You will have to explain your stupidity to a much higher being. Again shame on you. I will forever be thankful to her because my son has all he needs thanks to her support and guidance.

do not go and waist your time. This lawyer is no good she misrepresent you and charges outrages fees including any time you leave a message or emails. She does not return phone calls she does not care about your child. If you are smart look elsewhere she is only after money does not care who she hurts to get it.

I have been waiting almost 2 years to get my money back. You all can get a hold of the Texas bar association and they will help you file a complainant. you will get a response from her once the Texas Bar speaks to her.

If you have any expectation of being communicated with thoughout your legal process, choose someone else. This atty is very captivating and gives you undivided attention and concern while she is convincing you to sign onto to her 250.00/hr fee schedule; however, as soon as you remit fees, prepare to necer hear from her again. I am still awaiting a call back from this woman after having left over 10 messages over the course of one month. Ms. Valerie Alonzo Contreras wasted no time at all however, when she raced to the bank to cash the retainer check. This attoney also has apparent difficulty exercising ecomomy with the truth. If you submit an inquiry to her office as to actual work that has been completed (work, by the way, that was indicated to you would be processed the same day she accepted your $) you may if you are lucky get a secondhand mess. from an hrly employee stating she did do the work she promised, but of course it is someone elses fault no actual work was ever completed
