I used Mr. Ashmore as a mediator in a modification case. After 17 months of waiting for trial, our case was mediated just before trial. Mr. Ashmore proudly proclaimed at the beginning of mediation that I would not like him by the end of the day. He was spot on.
I understand the purpose of the mediator is to poke holes in each side's argument in order to get to a compromise. However, his arrogant attitude, flippant responses, audible scuffs at my requests and/or questions were unnecessary.
Perhaps he should be reminded that he is dealing with people's lives. Any successful mediation will result in making changes in peoples lives. A little respect and kindness goes a long way towards helping people bend in an otherwise stressful situation.
