Do whatever you have to do to get a new GAL if he is assigned to you. He should be arrested for false testimony. Despite recorded evidence of physical abuse, he testified there was no abuse and no drinking. However, one month after his report, the father got a DUI after crashing into a car with kids in it. He is a DANGER to society. He needs to be investigated and if that happened I am sure his license would be revoked.

My assessment of Steve Downing (hereafter D.) is objective & empirical. D. was appointed the GAL for our daughter in a custody case. He called our 8-year-old daughter, who was just abused by her mother, a liar. During a meeting, he ordered my daughter to exit the room so the adults could talk. Upon leaving she hugged me & he slammed his fist on his desk, yelling, "I didn't say you could do that!" He terrified her & I felt her little body jolt! If he didn't have power over my case, I’d have eviscerated him! Then upon D. learning of my daughter's gleaming Psych Eval, exonerating her of his absurd & convoluted theory of her lying about the abuse, D. abruptly changed his story to me brainwashing her! I have proof of how he treats children, as I recorded the meeting with my daughter, her mum, D. & myself. This egocentric, insidious wretch should not have influence over children in a professional or any other capacity. I will file formal complaints with the Attorney General & BAR Association

Steve Downing is the BEST. I have used him for many different cases I had to deal with and always won each case because of his knowledge. He is a strong man that tells it like it is and people can't handle that. I would call and if he did not answer I would just keep calling. He has a lot of clients and many cases because he is so good. Yes he takes time to get back to you but I have found many other attoneys that are the same way that is why I choose Mr.Downing. If you do not want the truth then don't go to him, he shoots right fron the hip. He does not play games

This attorney knows the law. He is caring, competent, and candid. He thinks ahead to avoid future problems and has taken excellent care of me and my grandchild. He understands the needs of children and sees to it they get what they need to be successful in this world. I highly recommend this attorney!

Steve Downing is the most corrupt, evil and sadistic person one could ever have the displeasure of running into. He stole every dime from my son’s inheritance; Not one time did he return phone calls, he worked to put every dime in his own pocket. It doesn’t take very long to find out he is the worst person you could go to for anything, he is inept and you will end up far worse after meeting him. He is a disgrace to humanity and should be run out of town.

My daughter had the unfortunate experience of having him as GAL on my case in 1994. Downing was unethical and dishonest with a reckless disregard for my daughter's safety and/or best interest. Because of his horribly unethical and dishonest conduct, my daughter suffered a childhood riddled with mental, physical and sexual abuse. No child should ever have to endure this horrible spawn of Satan on their case. Protect your children from him. He is the devil in incarnate

Steve Downing was our uardian ad litem. He was completely dishonest and bias. He even recommended a well known counselor which he did not follow her recommendations concerning parenting plan. My case went to trial he actually committed perjury on the stand when questioned by my attorney. He's not an honest person. I can't believe he's a GAL. I personally think he's just burned out. Do not choose him as a GAL. I can only imagine after reading other reviews the type of attorney he is.

He's Terrible.has novsense of honesty or Integrity on any level.incompetent to say the least. Screamed at me in front of my soon to be Ex husband. NEVER TOOK PHONE CALLS. When he chose to call back he was non present and useless.Dropped me 5 days before Final Divorce Court after stealing $700 Retainer and did no work for my case. I had completely supported Ex financially and he left me with everything owing and no home for me any my kids. Downing accused me of having a job I'd never Heard of! I was sick and unemployed for years! I alledhedly was working for Some second hand store called Thrift-T! So he used that lie even though that store called him and denied I ever worked for them. I went to court without representation and Lost big without attorney help and no money. He's an evil person.

It feels like Mr. Downing put in minimal effort and was asleep at the switch. This is a hard man to communicate with and he is a nervous person.

He was a GAL on my Paternity case. I found him to be dishonest, corrupt and evil. I would highly recommend protecting your children from him and his abusive tenancy's.

Steve Downing did a pretty good job on my divorce. The result ended up favorable and I was pleased with the deal he got even though I felt he did things at the last minute. He kept saying "just trust me," and he did do OK, but his final bill double-charged for something I had already paid. It may have been a mistake, but I felt he tried to pull a fast one on me. To his credit, he took the extra charge away when I showed him I had already paid for it on a previous bill.

Mr. Downing asked for money down, then when I went to pay him he changed it for more. I said OK, but should have trusted my gut right then. He communicated minimally and rarely returned phone calls and I wasn't being a pest. In the end, things came out OK, and I was actually surprised because we never had good communication and he was so cold to me.

I never knew what was going on. I finally realized that he was only motivated to give me updates when he was calling to ask for more money. I changed attorneys and had better results.

Mr. Downing is an interesting character and attorney. My husband and I have retained him three times now. Steve is VERY knowledgeable and knows his way around the Pierce County Courts incredibly well. If I had to point out weakness, I would say organization and communication. While Steve knows exactly what he's doing - he doesn't always tell us, the clients. Sometimes, we have to seek out information. In my opinion, if Steve has a secretary - that person should be fired. I have never found Steve to be dishonest, cocky, self-serving and/or unethical in the way he treated us and/or the opposing parties. The truth is the truth - sometimes, it's ugly. Additionally,we're yet to be "over charged." My husband and I are in no way related to or have any personal affiliation with Steve Downing - aside from retaining him as our family law attorney.

It always seemed like I had to remind him about things on my case. He rarely returned phone calls and always had excuses hor why I hadn't heard from him. This man talked a big game, but really couldn't deliver. I ended up getting a new attorney who was very helpful and way more efficient and prompt. Wasted my money.

I thought I had found a good lawyer and felt he was confident about the case. He said it was almost a slam dunk, then fumbled around and lost it on a procedure error. Then he "misbilled" for too much. I read here he is going through bancruptcy and now wonder about the billing "error."

Takes retainer and then bills you for a retainer. Makes up your responses and doesn't make corrections when you don't agree. He responded in a rude and scarcasic manner which made me look bad to the court. No communication didn't even tell me about a hearing. Didn't provide paper work to opposing counsel. Dropped my case because I didn't agree with how he was handling it and billing errors. Had to pay another retainer to another attorney to clean up his mess. Took my money even though his billing shows I have a credit. Now working to get it back. The worst, immoral attorney you could ask for.

Steve is awesome especially if you are male and dealing with an abusive female. Most attorneys seem to say you are behing the eight ball just because you are a man, but he wants the truth and then proceeds accordingly. Thanks stev, but I'm gonna need some help once again.

Choosing Steve Downing as my attorney was a HUGE mistake. He has no ethics. He has no scruples. He didn't return my calls for weeks, would get angry at me for calling, we would decide how to proceed, I write up documents, then he wouldn't file them with the opposing attorney or the court, but would still charge me for the time spent. He was condescending and rude. Treated me like I was stupid and had no interest in actually working for me and what I hope to achieve in my case. I am still paying for his errors in my parenting plan. It almost created just as many issues as I had been hoping to solve. Steve Downing has made me dread dealing with the legal system ever again. He didn't make me feel confident. He only added to my stress. Do NOT choose Steve Downing if you can help it.

He is a mixed bag.......and seems to be mixed up as an individual and a person. Arrogant and self-serving. I found that he started out OK, but felt he had a severe lack of integrity in the end. He felt comfortable making things up and lying, and that made me uneasy, even though we won. I don't want to ever be connected with him again. He creeps you out too with his lack of grooming. If you are looking for a sleazy lawyer, he's your guy.
