Mr. Goodman is always fast to answer any questions on the phone or through text. He is friendly and explains the case in a way that someone who is not a lawyer can understand. I called on Mr. Goodman to represent my son in June 2017 (underage alcohol) and again in May 2018 (reckless driving). Each time, our only hope was to have him successfully negotiate the outcome, as (it seemed to me) there was no question that my son was guilty as charged. On both occasions I was blown away by Mr. Goodman’s keen ability to listen & analyze every word spoken as the officer(s) presented the facts of the case. While the presentation was consistent with what my son reported, Mr. Goodman was able to turn the judge’s attention to the facts that were NOT presented - and in doing so, he saved my son’s driving privileges, criminal record, and job! Mr. Goodman used the law to our advantage, which is precisely why we hired him. His understanding of the law is invaluable!. He is tactful, honest, and did not provide false-hope. Rather, he prepared us for the worst and surprised us with relief. It is true... “He who represents himself, has a fool for a client”.

Mr. Goodman represented me in a case where I could have gotten jail time and could have lost my license for a year. He was able to reach an agreement with the Commonwealth Atty. for no jail time, no fines, and 30 day license suspension. I am very pleased with his work! If you need a great criminal lawyer in Charlottesville, VA that is professional, cares about his client and knows his way around the court system then I highly recommend Mr. Scott Goodman. We hired Mr. Goodman after a bad experience with our 1st lawyer. Mr. Goodman was professional, open in our discussions, caring about his client’s well being and did not sugar coat his responses. He responded to all of our requests/questions in a timely manner. He updated us on any progress or discussions with the DA. Mr. Goodman worked patiently and diligently to prep the accused for trial who had difficulties in communicating effectively. In the end there was a plea deal for a jail sentence of 45 days for a misdemeanor instead of a possible 16 years in prison. So do yourself a favor, do your research and meet with Mr. Goodman. You won’t be sorry.

Knowledge - he had a similar case as mine before and he knew the exact way to approach it! He also knew the judge and what and what not to bring up. Communication - he answered my texts/calls immediately, and met with me before the case a few times. Tenacity - he was extremely diligent (took photos to back up my case, made sure I felt comfortable throughout it all, etc.) Work Quality/Value - the above pretty much covers all this. I did not know Scott but he treated me in a very professional manner and I now consider him a good friend of mine. I would recommend him to all of my friends in a heart beat. Needless to say, he was able to have the judge side with me over the cops and I was able to get out "Scott" free!

I was in a really bad situation, definitely facing jail time for several reasons. I was very stressed out and thought it was very possible that I might lose everything. I went to Mr. Goodman and he very calmly and professional got me through everything with no jail time at all. He knew exactly what to say to the judge and put on a great case for me. I came to Scott with a criminal matter that seemed hopeless. The system doesn't always give a lot of hope for low income families. I came to Scott with a steep reckless driving case that every other lawyer in town told me was a long shot and then some. Scott said he felt confident he could reduce the charges, and he wasn’t just telling me what I wanted to hear. He jumped right into the case, came to meet me on the weekend, and had nothing but great advice to offer. Scott is smart, personable, and genuinely cares about his clients. As such, he also has friends in all the right places. He was able to work it out with the officer ahead of time so only the most favorable version of events would come out, and he knew exactly what would and wouldn’t be important to the judge. The case was over and done with in less than a minute, and I was beyond happy with the results. Long story short, Scott’s the man.

I truly can't emphasize the degree to which Mr. Goodman stepped up to handle/win my court case. Not only did he help me during the trial, but he followed up with me several months after and wrote a letter to the medical board on my behalf to ensure that my career would not be adversely affected by a frivolous lawsuit. I was extremely lucky to be referred to Mr. Goodman by someone with a great heart and great soul. I am a super newbie to Virginia and was got into a mess of a situation. I met with Mr. Goodman went through my case and particulars. Not even knowing me, Mr. Goodman took my case, super lucky me. My charges were not good at all. Mr. Goodman was always straight up with me with my circumstances and it was not good. I loved him being straight up with me and his true honesty but I cried many of times and there was good reason to. Honesty is the best policy. Mr. Goodman took a tough case for my teenage son and got the charges reduced and got my son off with just small fines despite serious charges . I would highly recommend him . He genuinely cares about tthe teens . I would give him a 10 if I could . Replies back very quickly . I would highly recommend him. When a family member of mine needed help, I knew Scott Goodman was the one who had the most experience and could be trusted to get the best outcome. Initially my family member had another lawyer that we never heard from and that morning in court, Scott Goodman jumped right in to help us. The Commonwealth Attorney had a video showing the "crime" and things really didn't look good at all! Mr. Goodman tried the case with ease and we won! Having a charge against you, can be damaging in so many ways. It is important to get an attorney to help you that knows the law, has many years of experience and most importantly is confident in the courtroom. Scott Goodman is that attorney! Mr. Goodman represented me on an a&b case, this was a charge that I could absolutely not have on my record! My ex pressed charges against me and even had a video! I had no clue how I was going to be able to beat this charge knowing he had evidence and he urged me to take a plea but I had to take a chance. Mr. Goodman showed up to court showed me the video and we decided to try the case. I was extremely nervous before they called my case but Mr. Goodman helped me feel confident knowing he was there to help. My ex told his side along with his whiteness. Mr. Goodman pointed out the lies they told that didn't match up with their video they showed. He proved to the judge that I was innocent and that I didn't deserve these charges. Finally it was time for the judge to make a decision... NOT GUILTY! Thank you Mr. Goodman! You helped me beat this charge not only did he have a witness but also a video and you were still able to prove him wrong! I strongly recommend Mr. Goodman as an attorney!

I was arrested for DUI and Mr. Goodman was recommended to me by a neighbor. She said he was the best she knew of for this type of charge. Scott Goodman struck me as a true gentleman when I met him and employed his services. He had several ideas while we sat in his office that perhaps could help me, but he did not promise solutions and I appreciated that as he is realistic. After I employed his services, he answered my text messages and emails in about 48 hours or less. I only called once and he was in court, so I used that method instead and recommend it if you pick him as your attorney. The day of court we saw the dash-cam video and I did not look good. However, he was able to reduce my charges to reckless driving which saved my job. He is old-school and honest, and the results were amazing - more than I hoped! I give him an honest A+ as an attorney and would recommend him to anyone.

I realize lawyers have to provide realistic expectations to their clients, just as Scott Goodman does. However I feel more emphasis could be put towards the positive possible outcomes. Therefore an intelligent estimation could be made on your potential charges. With that being said, at the same time, use your self proclaimed experience and courtroom savy to convey your clients case and argument with conviction and confidence, instead of defeatism and ingrained negative inevitable. I think to many attorneys these days don't fight for their clients to the fullest. Discussions go on the closed quarters where prosecutors and defense attorneys make agreements that don't benefit the defendant.. They do it to save their hide for the next time they may need something from prosecution.

I was charged with making threatening phone calls and assault. The charges were completely ludicrous and false, but still serious Class I Misdemeanors. Mr. Goodman was the only attorney who would talk with me over the phone and even met with me and offered to do some things before I hired him. After I hired him, he seemed very lax before the trial, but during the trial, I was very impressed! He tricked my accuser into admitting he was lying and the charges were dismissed. Definitely worth what I paid!

Mr. Goodman was a terrible lawyer. I paid him 1400.00 for nothing. He over valued himself. He was always late, and sometimes didn't show up @ all. I would not hire nor reccommend this lawyer for anything. Horrible experiance. Buyer beware of this guy. He is bad!! I actually hired another atty, whom was so much better. I could not believe I ever hired this hack. From what I heard he used to be good, but I think he has lost his passion or something.

I hired Scott to defend me against a reckless driving charge. We met and I described the details of my infraction. From the events Scott discerned several mitigating factors he could bring to the judges attention. He made no promises about the outcome of the trail, but constantly reminded me of his experience and success. He also placed much emphasis on the possible outcomes - suspended license, huge fines maybe even jail time. He reminded me constantly of the dangers of representing myself. He was deliberately using classic FUD (Fear, Obfuscation and Doubt) tactics. In court I was very disappointed with Scott's defense. He did not challenge the officer's statement. I heard him utter only two sentences in my defense, which were merely the explanations I told to him. Later I asked Scott about his very passive defense. He claimed to have said much more during the trail than I heard. In short - high fee, very low effort and claimed to do much more in court than I saw. Seek other counsel.
