I hired attorney Chris Haaf in the Spring of 2017 to help me with a dispute between my ex wife over time with my son, and to help pursue a few other modifications in our joint parenting agreement.
When I first met with him, he was very personable. He played up the fact that he was also a divorced father, and that he had family in my same profession so I related very well to him. He had a firm handshake, looked me in the eye, and needless to say I felt very good about providing him with a large retainer.
That was the end of the good things.
From the first month, Mr. Haaf was extremely poor at returning phone calls and emails. Days up to an entire week, with no responses. I would try him at the start of the business day, mid day, and evening. Once i did finally reach him, he would always have an excuse. I have consulted with Chris regarding Child Support owed by my ex-husband. He was knowledgeable and informed. He took the time to understand my situation and helped me to understand my options.

Mr. Haaff overseen the adoption of my daughter in Dec. 2015 since that time we have inquired countless times as to her bith certificate. March 8th 2016 was the last time we heard form Mr. Haaff with no birth certificate. We paid in full as agreed and now can't get Mr. Haaff to return a e-mail nor phone call as to how we can get this done ourselves, we paid for a service that is not rendered... Very Disappointed

Chris is pleasant to talk to, but has no follow through. He failed to notify me of several court dates. He fails to return phone calls and emails. I even had a friend who was a lawyer physically track Chris down and tell him to contact me. I sent Chris clear evidence of my spouse violating court orders. He did nothing about it. As a result my ex was able to ignore my parental rights and continues to do so.

Mr.Haaff is a very knowledgeable in his field. He keeps you informed and sends you all paperwork with good explanation.He also tries to keep the cost down while keeping your case moving. I would definitely recommend his ability to represent anyone going through a divorce or custody proceedings.

These comments do not match up with the attorney I know. Mr. Haaff is ethical and smart. He is loyal to his clients. As an adversary, you must be thoroughly prepared against him. Chris Haaff does a great job.

I am assuming lawyers are rated well when they accomplish the goals of the clients they are representing. In Chris's case he did, somewhat mitigate the severity of what could have been; however the result was still not good. I found that his communication, skill in the court room and general demeanor once he had a check in hand was poor. He did not return calls or email and I normally had no idea what was going on prior to court dates. In my opinion, Chris does not seem to take seriously the fiduicary responsinbibility of representing clients; he is more concenred with volume of clients than a favorable outcome. Given the number of divorce attorneys in McHenry county area, I would cross him off your list and invest the money in someone more skilled and ethical.

Do not hire Mr. Haaff. We hired him in a family law case, he goes to court unprepared and not responsive to any request that we have. We couldn't reach him for weeks during the trial time even after multiple phone calls and emails. We didn't even know what he was doing, and he continously failed to inform us about the progress of the case. Overall, the experience was a nightmare. We now have to hire another firm to defend us because Mr. Haaff's incompetence. He was originally with another law firm with good reputation, it didn't surprise me that he couldn't be there any more. I can't imagine he is still practicing law today. Do not hire him!!!

Where to begin with Mr. Haaff. There are not enough words to describe the damage that his inability has caused. He is a deceitful,lying manipulative man. How he lives with himself is beyond understanding. I am only now finding out that I am not the only one to have this experience with him. He comes to court unprepared, or with the wrong figures. Certainly that is something that would have been easily remedied had I been in court to give him the correct information. However Mr. Haaff did not inform me or send any proof of service for this specific court date. He then entered into an agreement that has effectively lessened my time with my children. My complaint is being reviewed by the ISP. If you are thinking of hiring Mr. Haaff, find a better attorney.
