I concur with the other 1-star reviews. When we first met with him, he said, "I'm good but I'm expensive." Turns out, in my opinion he was only expensive. Charged $7500 for what was supposed to be a fairly straightforward divorce case for a family member. Even though it was presented like he'd personally be the one handling the case, he punted it to a junior lawyer on his staff, let it drag out for a loooong time, then the junior unexpectedly quit and left the case hanging—and nobody told us he had quit. When it landed back in Howard's lap, he was totally useless, in my opinion. He took the money then started looking for an easy way out rather than do what he had been paid to do, in my opinion. It was a waste of money.

I wish we would have fired him ...unfortunately my best friend is serving a life sentence for something he didn't do ....Howard barely put up a defense for him in court. After we paid him $75K. Clearly doesn't care about his clients - this type of lawyering shouldn't even be allowed - sorry excuse for a human being

I agree with all the other postings. No one showed up at my support hearing. We were supposed to be there at 8. I called the office at 10 and learned his paralegal was coming to represent me. The paralegal walked up to my ex husbands attorney and started bad mouthing me- so embarrassing. She was mad because Howard took my money by phone and failed to meet with me three times. They knew nothing about my case because Howard filed my divorce, took my $15000, and cancelled three meetings before court. He represented me so poorly my home was ordered sold in a support hearing. Howard kept me in contempt of court for a year until my father went with me and made him file the right motions. Howard's paralegal was out sick a lot with a brain tumor; therefore, things did not get done. She would be gone or simply forget. I understand her illness but they billed me each time I called to remind her. I received $48000 3 years after my divorce with a different attorney because Howard didnt do his job.

Stay away from this person! 30 minutes before the court he asked me to see the papers i brought with me even though i emailed those to him for the review, he clearly did not read them yet he charged me for the "time" he spent on them where i clearly know that he was with his family all day. He also said that we talked on the phone for more then 2 hours, however my phone records show exact 30 minutes of talking! if you want your money wasted and add up to your problems go ahead and hire this person. Otherwise stay away from him and save your money for someone with better reputation

I have to agree with the other 2 reviews. Howard Shapiro is a poor excuse for a lawyer. He took my case with the intent of pleading it out. He would tell me something and then swear that he never said it. He never did anything that he promised he would do when he was trying to get my money. It was a wasted $5,000. I had to fire him and hire another lawyer.

This is a HUGE warning to folks who need a lawyer in Collin County or Dallas County. If you want to pay twice as much money for no service, delays while he racks the bill up, and lack of intelligence and caring, then go ahead. Howard Shapiro was fired by me recently. Thankfully before my case got too far along. He is the worst lawyer I have ever met and I am around them alot. He came recommended as an experienced divorce attorney but I would be better off alone. He did not read my file, did not recognize me, and did not care about my story. He would not research my requests and talked to be as if he was prosecuting me. The other post was correct in everyway as I have experienced exactly the same thing. I will post this information on every site I can find on rating attorneys to get the word out. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE FANCY OFFICE AND BIG STAFF!!

He handled my divorce and he did a much worse job than if I would have gone through it without a lawyer at all. So I paid him high money for extremely poor representation! He continually asked me the same questions every time we met (easy questions too, such as where I worked). I had to give him the same information repeatedly and had to pay each time he asked for it. He had no clue who I was through out the entire divorce process even on the day we went to court, and it was quite obvious in front of the judge that Mr. Shapiro didn't really know anything about me or my case. He pretty much got his butt kicked by my ex-husband who didn't even have a lawyer. I would never recommend him to anybody! If you want a lawyer who cares about you and not just about getting your money, then stay far, far away from Howard Shapiro!
