Tim McGoughran, his wife Allison and the rest of his staff are the absolute best. I’m so grateful I had this team to help me navigate and get the best possible outcome during the worst event in my life. Everyone was so supportive, kind and honest. The 1st time I spoke with Tim on the phone after trying to find a laywer who would help me and my son in a very difficult family situation.p I felt the genuine concern that I would see clearly when we met him face to face. I'm sure I'm not the first one in this space who was traumatized by the sudden prospect of divorce, especially at an age (late 70s) when I thought I'd already done the heavy lifting, and was ready to put my feet up and savor the golden years. Tim took all the mystery and most of the drama out of the process, providing a knowledgeable, calming voice in an often contentious space, and succeeded in dragging me and my previously intractible ex to a settlement without the added expense of going to trial. But beyond the expertise and surety one might expect from a president-elect of the state bar association, it was and is the relentless empathy of Tim and his talented and capable staff -- Yessenia, my go-to person when Tim was temporarily sidelined by knee surgery and the ensuing rehab; Allison, Michelle, and Tori -- for which I will remain forever grateful.

I used Tim for my divorce in 2022/2023. Tim and his ENTIRE staff made this extremely painful and difficult journey for me as smooth as could possibly be. I felt the entire office was always behind me,listened to my concerns with care and understood exactly what my needs were. All of the staff made me feel safe, important and most of all, heard. Each person went above and beyond what you would normally think of during this emotional time. Tim listened and acted like a concerned father would. His knowledge,sense of fairness, ability to communicate and negotiate effectively were exactly what I was looking for to deal with my oppositional ex. Tim represent me when my ex-husband decided to stop my alimony and file with court to terminate the alimony all together. Tim has a great staff/team who work with you through the day at court. Tim was knowledgeable in all areas of the law and made decisions that produced more to me than what I expected. He was compassionate and understanding to my case. I highly recommend this firm for many reasons but mostly, the cost was reasonable. I didn’t feel I was robbed by being represented by an attorney. Great job Tim and team!

I recently had a divorce finalized (May 1, '19) and can not be more appreciative of the service that I received from Tim ,Alison, Michelle, Tori and Richard. The professionalism shown by the entire staff was on the highest level. And the compassion shown by everyone was greatly appreciated. They understood that even though they do this very day, most clients only go through it once. Tim was thorough and timely in his preparations . I have been using the Law office of Timothy F. McGoughran for the last three years. Mr. McGoughran and his team have guided me through my divorce and custody issues. Over this time they have proved to be extremely knowledgeable and very helpful in steering me in the right direction. Throughout the years, I have often called to ask their advice on an issue that was upsetting me and I wasn't sure how to handle. I need to obtain Tim McGoughran for family law due to long standing custody issues from my previous divorce. The first time I met with Tim, he listened to my issues, wrote a letter and charged me a fair price. Unfortunately, I then had to retain him a few months later. Allison, his paralegal was simply amazing. She worked with me the entire time, told me exactly what they needed from me and by when, and I only needed to go in to the office for consultation once prior to court. Everything else was accomplished by email in order to keep costs to a minimum. The quality of their work is top notch, they do not let any detail go unmentioned, and they make sure you and they have everything needed to ensure a successful ending. Most importantly, they care about you as a client. This was the biggest thing for me while working with them. Are lawyers expensive yes, they all are, but Tim McGoughran and Allison and their team are totally worth every penny.

Most of these positive reviews seem fake. The firm is horrible and over charges, they are never ready to proceed, probably so they can pad their pockets in legal fees. They are not knowledgeable in law and were unprepared to answer basic questions. Do not recommend.

I believe the word divorce is synonymous with misery. However, Mr. McGoughran and his staff assured me not to worry, so I didn’t. After my former attorney could no longer practice due to a medical emergency, I found myself in search for a replacement counsel who needed to be of the same caliber as my former attorney with similar levels of knowledge, expertise and years of experience. Timothy McGoughran was recommended to me off of a very short list by a psychologist who works regularly in the courts with numerous attorneys because Tim met my criteria. I was involved with Family Court for an 8 1/2 year nightmare, and used 4 different lawyers during that time. At the end I had need of a lawyer, once more, the day before our court date, and luckily found Tim McGoughran. My case involved criminal, as well as family court matters, and our files could have filled a room. Tim quickly perused and grasped our issues. He's amazing! We went to court and won on every issue. For the first time in 8 1/2 years I felt that I had competent representation. When our bill came in the mail my husband actually smiled as he wrote out the check. I made an appointment to see Tim because after dealing with the enormous amount of paperwork working with the probation dept to have my son emancipated I finally gave up. Blindsided by a conniving spouse with a divorce I knew I would have to retain the best legal expert to protect my interests. Fortunately for me two colleagues had the same situation and Tim represented them. They had been referred to Tim by an attorney in Monmouth County who does not handle divorces. What better testimonial than that did I need?Dealing with a difficult and unreasonable spouse made my divorce long and arduous, but Tim, Allison, and their staff stuck it out with me, never minimizing any of my concerns. Several years after my divorce I found myself back in court again fighting over custody of one of my children. Scared to death, as my child was an older teen, I again turned to Tim to fight this custody issue for me. I was confident that if anyone could win this battle it was Tim. Very surprised to see someone on the "otherside" write a positive review and doubt the authenticity of that - regardless - Allison runs the show - I asked many questions via email and was constantly told to "come in and speak with Tim". I complained because going in to speak with Tim on issues that could easily be addressed via email was running up my bill - when I complained I was told if I didn't like it I could find another attorney. That is exactly what I did and they never once said come in and meet with me in response to my asking questions via email - they answered anything I asked happily - and my bill was reasonable unlike when I was using this attorney. Found Allison to be difficult when challenged or questioned. As the consumer you have the right to question how your money is being spent - they seem to forget that.

Surprised to see prior review. Both Tim and his wife Allison (paralegal), as well as the staff, were exceptional in their handling of my very complicated, and at times, emotionally difficult divorce. His professionalism and expertise are unmatched and the fact that he served as the President of the Monmouth County Bar Association doesn't hurt. If you have marital problems, run, don't walk (ok, drive) to his office as soon as you can.

Unreachable and sends someone else on the day of court who shows up late. Office wait times are long and bills sent were incorrect. Constantly charges interest fees for balances already paid. Don't waste your time with this lawyer!!
