Your a lawyer, dress like it. Answer your messages. Don't make the clients do all the work and pay your stupid face. Horrible service. I am still recieving bills that he promised would be taken care of. DON'T use his services.

All the previous negative posts are accurate to a tee! On first meeting, Tom shows up in shorts and a shirt with holes. My wife and I had many questions and were answered as if we were inconveniencing him. Left many msg's w/ questions unanswered. Found out later his information on Chapt. 13 was incorrect and our assets were indeed up for grabs with the courts. After he took our $100 retainer fee, he had no interest in even responding to an email. Bankruptcy is a serious situation and he treated it like a visit to the shoe store!

Had called to see if my paper work and check had arrived to his office. He said he didn't know because their "system" (internet) was down. I said I couldn't understand what this had to do with the US Mail and he was very short with me. He said, "have you ever run a business?" His vibe was not good. Condescending. A young punk.

Thomas and Sarah are wonderful. I was full of concerns and if Thomas was not available Sarah was to help me out. I could get a hold of them easily on the phone and through email. I have and will continue recommending them to my friends. Its nice to be treated with respect instead of just another number.

Good guy, fair price and did what he said he would do. Look, we are all streesed out losers - filing bankruptcy is a last resort. We cant expect to be treated like Wall Street CEOs. I thought he did a great job under the circumstances I brought to him

Mr. McAvity offered great suggestions and gave me a good idea as to what I'd be up against. I was satisfied with all the information he was able to give me about bankruptcy law. He seemed to have an extensive understanding of bankruptcy and what that might mean for me as a business owner with a family. I was thoroughly impressed with his staff and his demeanor was always welcoming and enthusiastic. I would gladly recommend him to friends and family who live in the area.

Back in January of 2008 I filed a bankruptcy. Thomas was extremely disorganized. His communication was extremely poor. He waited until I reached out to him before he would follow up. There were several times when I would follow up with a call to an email I had sent asking about status, court dates, if there was anything else he needed, etc. And he wouldn't recall who I was. Even when I provided my name and case number. This concerned me greatly, but as we were in the middle of the filing I couldn't back out. Now I find out that I have a telephone case coming up, when I was told it was discharged and closed back in April of 2008. When I called his office his receptionist was very rude and told me that I had better start saving my money. THIS IS WHY I FILED THE BANKRUPCY! I am living paycheck to paycheck and a single parent trying to rebuild from a divorce. Be aware people. I am greatly dissatisfied with his service he provides.

My husband and I have had a horrible experience with Tom. I agree with the previous posts regarding his lack of responsiveness, overall bad attitude, and lack of good counsel. He never informed us that our first payment to the trustee was due and we missed the due date. Thankfully, the trustee is a reasonable person and he took a liking to us, so we were saved. Tom also lost several years worth of our important financial documents that were needed as part of the case. I have been asking him to return the documents for over a month and after at least 10 phone calls and countless emails, he admitted that he misplaced the files. I am actually astounded by his lack of caring for his clients. We are already in a difficult spot with filing bankruptcy and he makes it more stressful. We are in the process of turning our case over to a responsible and accountable lawyer. If you want a recommendation, respond to this post. Whatever you do...do not use Tom McAvity for your bankruptcy case.

Mr. McAvity cares about only one thing, getting his money! He never returns Emails, phone calls, etc. He says he will do something.. yet never does. He does not care about his clients what-so-ever. It's all about $$$$!

I had a HORRIBLE experience. completely lacks concern for his clients. Frequently asked me about family and friends finances then asked me to refere them to him to get their business as well. A debt I asked him about 4 times to make sure was put on my schedules he said was, and it wasn't. Told me to ignore bills that kept coming in because "they hadn't gotten their paperwork yet" (later to find out they never recived paperwork). PUSHED me to get rid of my vehicle (which was in no risk of being lost), even told me my co-signer wouldn't be harmed by that (WRONG!) which only left me with a BIGGER debt after I let it go back then had to get it out of repo. Didn't send in my certifcates of course completion until it was almost too late (and I called him daily over it). No answers or reassurances (when needed)to questions/concerns. I plan to file a formal complaint with the OR. State Bar ASAP. SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE..FIND SOMEONE ELSE!! really made me feel like he was only after my money.

I filed for Bankruptcy with this man 2 years ago, and all he did was take my retainer fee and then I never heard from him again. He has left me do deal with everything on my own. I belive he's a FRAUD!! DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR MONEY OR FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY WITH HIM HE WILL TAKE YOUR RETAINER FEE AND FLEE! He's horrible and I hope he gets enough formal complaints against him that he's banned from the bar and can no longer practice being as he doesn't do his JOB anyway.

Initially gives you little information. Very interested in receiving your money. Extremely disorganized, lacks concern and follow-through. I nearly lost my car through bankruptcy, because he blames everyone else for work he has forgetten to do. He continues to fail to support his client(s) until it is nearly too late, waiting for YOU, the one paying for his service, to make the phone calls, initiate letters and pay for fed-ex. Filing bankruptcy is tramatic for many people. Save your money, find another attorney to help you with your bankruptcy, hopefully you will a better experience than I!
