The difference is she is 100% vested in hearing your story and presenting it with advocacy - Kathleen is straightforward in telling you the best steps to take and what to avoid. Mediation is the key and she is my strong advocate in that process.

I hired Kathleen to represent me in my high-conflict separation, which was also a domestic violence situation. From the start she was my advocate and helped me realize that I didn't have to go through this alone. She was responsive and helpful and worked hard to make sure my priorities were met. She is knowledgeable and experienced, and I would recommend her to anyone who wants a lawyer who isn't afraid to get things done!

I was representing myself in a nasty custody battle. I was fighting for my daughters and was struggling in court, mainly because I didn't lie and try to make my ex look bad. I became visibly upset and couldn't control my emotions and that is when Kathleen approached me and told me to relax, stay calm and she walked me out of court and talked me off the ledge.She spend a good amount of time telling me exactly what I needed to hear and was "to the point" Kathleen didn't give me a 100 possible outcomes or options. She told me what my rights were and what to do and what not to do,AND THAT WAS IT.
I took her advice and went back to the other party and they immediately agreed to what I had put in writing! I did end up hiring her to review the agreement and have the judge sign off on it. I have since referred one person, who retained Kathleen and can't stop thanking me for the referral, as he did not have a good experience with his first attorney.

Do not hire this lawyer. She talks a good talk when you first meet her. She sucks you in. Her flat fee contract is a joke. All she wants is you're MONEY. It has been over 6 months ,10,000 later ,no court dates. She says the keep getting pushed back, Mellissa her Asst. Lies for her. Still have no child support, custody papers. I'm drowning in fiancé issues. I have children I can't support. My family has given enough money and support ,and all Kathleen is concerned about is her money,!!!

Kathleen is an awesome attorney! She represented me during a very difficult time in my life, my divorce. Because of her I was able to go forward with self confidence and ability to start over with financial stability and caring for my two daughters.

I am so grateful to have had Kathleen represent me in my divorce. Kathleen Murphy is one of the most unethical attorneys I have ever seen. Her legal advice is unethical, she plays games, and does not fight fairly. She advised one of her clients to stop paying bills that supported a family, because the opposite attorney did not respond to her email in her time schedule. That not only made the pending separation worse, but strained the family, the finances, and now the credit of the family the client deserted. THAT is legal advice? Please - don't waste your time or money on this hustler.

Kathleen has been my attorney for going on 13 years now. She has handled my divorce and sawme through a Custody Hearing 10 years ago which ended in my favor. An attorney that can steer a single father to custody of his young daughter understands to laws and the system. In my very first meeting with Kathleen she asked me what my goal was concerning my daughter. Although sometimes frustrating, her decisions are always thinking about the big picutre which may make some people angry for not getting immediate satisfaction. Kathleen is also lucky to have Melissa working for her. Melissa has been with Kathleen for s long as Kathleen has been my attorney and helps to make the office a great team. If you want an attorney that holds your hand and make you feel great, Kathleen may not be the attorney for you. If you want results then Kathleen should be your attorney.

I was so blessed to have Kathleen Murphy recommended to me. She was worth every penny. I received above and beyond what I had expected and it was a very ugly divorce situation. Not only did she fight for me and for my children, she also helped counsel me and was a wonderful support. My children and I now feel safe and comfortable because of the wonderful services I received form The Law Offices of Kathleen Murphy. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Beware of Kathleen Murphy. She wants your money, and when she gets it, her work stops. In court, she is an incompetent slob, greatly outclassed by even the least experienced lawyers she faces. Her office lacks professionalism; unless you owe money, don't expect your phone calls or emails to be returned. Her office paralegal, Melissa, is a very nice person who wil lie to cover Kathleen when she doesn't want to deal with what you need. The judge in my case showed Kathleen no respect. I would strongly urge that you call around to hear about her reputation before engaging Kathleen Murphy. She is unscrupulous, and cares only about being paid.

I hired Kathleen to help assist and consult a family member dealing with extreme abuse. Kathleen did an excellent job in keeping us informed and helping us navigate the legal system and handle tough decisions. Kathleen was always available as well as her assistant, even on weekends. The staff is friendly and helpful. This office comes highly recommended.

This attorney is a joke. Please do not waste your money since it is nonrefundable up front. I left her after she had barely started my case and she would not refund anything. She would actually hold appointments with you in sweat pants and a T shirt and once she ate her Mexican lunch in front of me during our appointment. How professional !! I heard directly from other attorneys that she is not respected by other attorneys over at the court house, had them actually laugh about her and they indicated she was not highly respected by the judges. He is very disorganized, treats you disrespectful in meetings as you are trying to understand the legal implications of working through your situation, etc. SHE IS A JOKE !!!! GET AN ATTORNEY WITH A REPUTATION. THAT IS WHAT MATTERS IN FRONT OF THAT JUDGE ! Don't was your time or money with her.

Do not hire Kathleen and Melissa they will be your worst nightmare... If you think your divorce is stressful wait till you hire her… They will pray on your emotions and leave you out hanging with nothing accomplish, broke and emotionally stressed. I wish I had read all these reviews before I hired her. All the poor reviews and ratings, are 100% true. She charged me 35,000.00 upfront did nothing and no refunds and left me in a mess. Money upfront so you will be at her mercy. I signed her up to get my custody, child support, alimony and ED done. She did nothing done but blamed the court system for all her incompetency. She was unprepared in court and made mistakes that cost me time with kids that you will never be able to get back. She will cancel your appointed and have no respect for your time. She even was incapable of defending me with my Ex having no council. She left court orders incomplete delaying me to hire new council. After 1 year and 8 months I fired her, run from her.

Kathleen, Melissa and Patrick are a great team. There are many law firms where you call and are automatically put into voice mail but with Kathleen’s office, she does give out her cell phone and Melissa’s cell phone if you ever need her and she responds to texts, emails and calls. As she explained in her first consult, she has many limitations on her time with the calendaring system in Wake County. A case is calendared but she does not know when the case may be heard on any given day. Additionally, she is in depositions or mediations. If you have trouble reaching her, just tell her because she is very approachable. Being in a divorce situation is very stressful and it is easy to complain, but Kathleen and her staff have gone out of their way for me. They have met me in Cary and I always know their cell phone numbers. My case is still ongoing but I feel that this firm has been very straight up about the status and how things go in court versus mediation.

I hired Kathleen Murphy to handle my separation and divorce. The moment I consulted with the firm,I knew that this was the place that would fight for myself as well as my children. Although I can understand some comments on Kathleen’s lack of communication, I am certainly surprised that there was no mention of her paralegal, Melissa.
Melissa was prompt in returning my calls, professional when listening my concerns and more then knowledgeable. Not to mention, Melissa was available to answer my calls/emails at all hours of any day. In fact, a situation arose on a holiday regarding a custody arrangement.I took a chance and called Melissa.She took time away from her own family to call me back and walked me through my situation with advise that was spot on.
She is the true gem of that office. The attorney may not always be available for you, but they better have something just as good to answer the call. Kathleen Murphy has Melissa and that’s why I highly recommend that office.

Kathleen Murphy was extremely difficult to contact once she collected her fee. She forgets about my case as soon as I leave her office or get off the phone with her. She even forgot about a scheduled meeting at her office! Her advice ruined any chance at a civil separation between me and my spouse. It was and still is war. Be careful. She promises the sun and moon verbally, then "forgets" what she promised. You end up feeling like you need to sue your lawyer, but she's covered her tracks too well. What's sad is that she is sharp as a tack. She can slice and dice the opposition like nobody's business. It seems she is too busy for her own good. My guess is that she has FAR too many clients to do any of them justice, except perhaps the ones with the fattest wallets. You end up feeling like a burden, just to get legal representation. Her flat fee system sucks as soon as you sign the check.

Do not use this attorney. She charges a flat fee and doesn't do anything, does not return calls, does not prepare for court, until of course the other payment is due, then you get plenty of calls!! We spent a flat $5,000 for just a couple of short phone calls, she wanted another $3,500, and guess what? She kept calling for that! We are in the process of reporting her to the state bar and will probably have to take her to small claims. She is bad all the way around.

I was very dissatisfied with my experience using Mrs. Murphy's office. Mrs. Murphy is a good attorney, however I found that she and her staff were consistently unresponsive and unprofessional. It is also my belief that my case was discussed with people that were in no way related to my divorce. I would not use this law office again or recommend it to anyone.

Kathleen Murphy and her staff were effective advocates for me in my divorce. She kept me informed on proceedings, gave excellent advice and displayed thorough knowledge of the law. Kathleen was intuitive when negotiating in mediation, which in my case, lasted through a second 12 hour session. She got me the best settlment possible and has hindered my ex-husband's harassments. Kathleen rescued me from a very bad legal situation. My ex-husband was pressuring me to sign a final settlement with a mediation firm within 4 days of discussing dissolving our 35 year marriage. He was not truthful regarding our financial situation or his personal behavior. She fought for my rights and I am moving on as a single, independent woman. I feel that she has given me back my life. You can't put a price on that.

Kathleen is nice and has competitive rates. She was not very efficient at getting back to me or the opposing council. I guess she was ok as far as divorce lawyers go.
