Had the worse experience of my life. Find another lawyer. She will take your money and go buy properties with her husband, son and daughter. Go count how many properties they own.

When my wife and I purchased our first house, naturally stress abound everywhere. The last thing we wanted to worry about were legal documents!!! Harriet Altman to the rescue. We found Harriet through public referrals and we are so glad we did. From initiating, guiding and executing the process and daunting paperwork, Harriet was able to translate into layman terms, and her communication channels were always open. My wife and I needed to get some legal work done fairly quickly before heading out of town. Not only did Harriet Altman meet us early in the morning to accommodate our schedule but she finished the work in a very timely manner. Harriet was very fair with her pricing and made sure we understood everything that was included in the bill. Overall, the service we received was excellent and I would highly recommend her.

I never met a Lawyer I could trust until Harriet. Aside from being extremely professional, diligent, smart as a whip and in general the most qualified Real Estate Lawyer I've ever dealt with, Harriet also has a heart of gold. We were going through one of the worst closings I've ever had (and I've had a lot) and to Harriet's credit, she worked day and night to resolve the issues we were having. She took time out of her holiday and weekend just so we could close on time. I highly recommend Harriet to anyone who believes in competency, value and integrity. I can't thank her enough for all her help and am very grateful to have dealt with her. I will use her again the next chance I get!

Using Mrs. Altman was by far my most stressful closing in my entire life. Over the past 15 years, I've gone through 5 closings and none of them were as chaotic as my last one. I'm definitely not going back to her again. If you are into having to resend documents 2-3 times just because she lost them somehow, then she's the lawyer you want. She talks about your file to other people without permission, overcharges and does not complete the work she is hired to do. Can rarely if ever get a hold of her. If you're looking for someone reliable, responsible, attentive and knowledgeable then look elsewhere.

I have used Harriet Altman as my real estate lawyer since approximately 1995. Over the years she has assisted me in purchasing, and subsequently selling, a condo and 3 houses in the GTA. In addition, she has assisted with providing wills and powers of attorney's for my wife and I. I have always felt that having Harriet on my side was a great benefit. I have referred numerous friends, and most importantly my parents, for wills, powers of attorneys and real estate closings - all without issue.

We emailed Mrs. Altman to set a quote. I received a return email promptly with all the details I required. She asked me to call her and she explained the whole process to me. She reviewed the entire process with us and advised us to call our insurance agent and arrange coverage and to finalize the mortgage promptly. The transaction went so smoothly that I referred my sister and mother in-law to her.

My and wife and I first came across Mrs. Harriet Altman in 2003. We needed a personable feel the current Realstate firm lacked. Harriet was delightful from the start. She was informative, kind, and within moments of speaking with her, my wife and I decided to work with her. We were very pleased with her response time, and punctuality during the process.
During our 2nd transaction with Harriet, she sat us down and confidently urged us to walk away. The meeting was tough because both my wife and I were emotionally involved the investment. While disappointed that Mrs. Altman was correct, I was pleased she cared more about us than the profit she could have made if we proceeded with the purchase. That day we learned Harriet is an honorable lawyer!!! Mrs. Altman helped us avoid a costly mistake.
Since then we have worked with Harriet on eight transactions. When compared her to other lawyers we've worked with over the past 14 years, she's by far the best.

Rude and unprofessional. Poor service. Fees go up without notice. Many hidden costs! Avoid Harriet Altman if you don't want headaches. Harriet did up a business contracts and told me it was stacked in my favour. She made many mistakes that I got burned. Harriet is about taking your money to buy properties for herself. Report her to the LAW SOCIETY OF UPPER CANADA.

When me and my partner hired Mrs. Altman, we found her to be efficient, knowledgeable and prompt. Our closing went without a hitch and she was very pleasant to do business with. In the past we have found that some lawyers did not treat us as well and were judgmental of same sex couples. Mrs. Altman welcomed us into her office which is in her home and made us feel very welcome. I would recommend her to anyone.

I've used Harriet for 3 real estate transactions: 1 condo and 2 houses. I've had a great experience with Harriet and that's why I keep going back to her. For one of the house's I purchased, the builder was not cooperating and not providing a new home warranty through Tarion. Harriet suspected that I may be entitled to this and filled out the Tarion forms. Tarion did a full investigation and determined that I ddi deserve a New Home Warranty. This actually saved me a lot of money as there was over $15K worth of repairs required which Tarion reimbursed me for. I owe it to Harriet for her knowledge and recommendation in this area. The main reason I originally went with Harriet was for her reasonable rates and that she is flexible on her hours for evening/weekend appointments when available. I work during the day and taking time out during working hours is difficult which is what I found most lawyers expected.

I was referred to Harriet Altman by my supervisor at work when we bought our 1st house. He had used her in the past and promised she would see us after hours so I would not have to leave work. She was efficient, pleasant, walked us through the whole process, did not charge much for disbursements fees, did not charge for phone calls and was hundreds less than our other quote. The whole process went smoothly and I would recommend her to my friends.

My husband and I were new to Canada when we hired Harriet Altman to help us with the purchase of our condominium. She explained to us the concept of a Condominium and thoroughly reviewed the Status Certificate with us. She made us understand that the fees were only set for a year and that they would increase over time and made sure our budget accounted for this. She explained the benefits of each of the two mortgages we were considering and this helped us make an informed decision. The purchase went smoothly and she handed us our keys early on the closing date. Our closing package followed soon after and we will always be grateful for the help we received.

I wish I had read these bad reviews earlier. Could have saved me so much headaches. Altman took me for a ride and screwed me over for $2,000. She said it would cost me $1,000 and then it gradually went up to $3,200. She did not provide a written estimate. Definitely no email and no cell phone. Extremely rude person. Also I notice that after a bad review it is always followed by an excellent review a few days later. The administrator of this site should see if those reviews are coming from Mrs. Altman herself. Timing is suspicious and she is very sneaky.

My wife and I were referred to Harriet Altman for our legal work. I have found her to be the consummate professional. Accomplished and experienced, she has closed two house deals for us and did so checking details and asking pertinent questions as if they she were buying them. I look at the quality of her work, her honesty and the ability to get the job done. She is a bright woman, caring and has returned calls with promptness and efficiency. There is nothing wrong with having a home office, I do. In fact, I know of lawyers who wouldn’t disclose home addresses and for her to genuinely invite me to her residence makes me feel more at ease than a Bay Street office tower that would only jack up the rates. Highly recommend her.

Awful lawyer. Horrible experience. I am looking at her business card right now and there is no email address on it. She might have a mobile phone but she won't give you the number otherwise you can text her. Harriet Altman avoids anything that leaves a record of communication. Thats how she is able to skyrocket her fees after she ropes you in and takes your deposit. For anyone that reads this and claims to have had a wonderful experience with her and that she has a mobile phone, then please post that number up here because after all it is public information and she will want the advertising.

I have used this lawyer for my last four real estate transactions. She is fantastic - very sharp- someone you definitely want on your side! The first house she noticed the stairs were not on my property and there were serious easements - something the first lawyer totally missed! The next time she inserted clauses in the contract that saved us substantial money and headaches with a house from blueprints. On our commercial lease, she again negotiated us the most favourable terms - she will go to bat with the 'big boys' and won't back down. Most recently she insisted on a swimming pool clause that was smart and effective - saved us a bunch of money and many other lawyers would not have bothered. Mrs. Altman doesn't waste time and she doesn't mince words - she is tough and to the point - exactly what I want in a lawyer. Other poster who complained about price probably hasn't shopped around....and when it comes to lawyers - you get what you pay for.
