I was represented by Samantha Ferreira through Legal Aid and experienced long periods without communication. Calls went unanswered for months. While incarcerated, a senior secretary allegedly told a new assistant to discard my paperwork, saying, “That’s just Shane McEwen.” Another lawyer, not Ms. Ferreira, handled my release on an ankle monitor. She previously told me all Crown attorneys hated me and I would not be released, yet I was freed with little opposition. I requested a change of lawyer through Legal Aid due to serious concerns. Ms. Ferreira denied the request and said I must “mend relations” or lose funding. After my sureties contacted her office, she refused to ever represent me again. Legal Aid then left me without representation. I was mocked after testifying about traumatic events. I also allege serious ethical concerns regarding her personal conduct. Based on my experience, I strongly caution others about seeking representation from this office.
