In December 2025, Predrag Tomic of Field Law was formally disciplined by the Law Society of NWT after a fully funded estate lost a home through tax sale due to his failure to act competently and in a timely manner. The loss was entirely preventable.
Despite the estate having sufficient funds to pay the property taxes, Tomic failed to properly advance the transmission of title, failed to obtain and review a current certificate of title to verify tax arrears notices, and failed to take reasonable and necessary steps to protect the estate’s primary asset.
Tomic also failed to report himself to the Law Society once the estate suffered material prejudice, as required under the Code of Professional Conduct.

Peter genuinely helped my wife and her brothers get their rightful share in the estate of their mom in calgary. A will had been written under suspicious circuimstances and we wanted to challenge it. Peter had the best and clearest suggests, reasonable and smallest retainer from all we checked, and reasonable rate as well. What really impressed us what his crystal clear thinking and communication. He knew from the get go what will likely happen and guided us throughout the process. Absolutely loved his help and guidance. The matter was settled out of court immediately before the due date of the court. Honestly, peter was so organized and committed, that other party's lawyers changed twice intimidated by his communication. We were really lucky to have found him.
