He did not know or want to know my case. He doesn’t produce proper timesheets or what he charged me for. He clearly did not care about my case. Two days prior to our court date, on a Sunday, called a meeting with my x and lawyer but did not tell me he was the one who requested it. He told me his mother was dying in hospital and everyone was there but him. I walked away from everything that day. He should be disbarred for not caring about his clients and the trauma that a divorce causes. He only cares about money.

1. He doesn't send you a retainer agreement when you pay him the retainer, which makes it difficult for you to know how he charges you for his billable hours.
2. He always stalls your case to move forward. eg. I wrote to him to arrange a mediation with my Ex, Mr. Cross wrote to me that I was right and He would take a second look at my case and then nothing was arranged until I fired him.
3.Despite all those billable hours Mr. Cross claimed he has worked on my case, he was not doing his due diligence. During a 30-min phone call to revise my financial statement, he failed to mention nothing of the doubts my EX had on my file. Had he done his due diligence like he claimed on my case, how was this even possible? He would also take lots of time on the phone to discuss the amount of your water bill is too low or your property tax is too high on the financial statement, which I think is a total waste of time and money. Paying him $315/h to discuss these?!

I hired Rod with a referral from someone who followed Rod's advice painfully for years whose case got dragged out to the point that he ended up losing his house over it! My matter was a straightforward non-contested divorce that ended up taking 6 months and I received a "need more money" hi-jack e-mail before it could be completed. Oh, and there was one "please behave" letter he sent to my ex that probably ended up costing me over $1000. From what I gather, Rod's business model is to charge a high rate for everything he does. For him, $2500 is water under the bridge. So there's no lower rate for procedural tasks which you end up paying dearly for and to some degree completing yourself. He's very busy prioritizing his caseload with his other clients so don't expect anything on time and budget. He is personable when you go to his office so I'm sure that goes the distance for the clients he has managed to please. I suggest you take your chances elsewhere as he is slow moving and probably

He was my lawyer for a year. Always told me the truth. I like him and would recommend him. He doesn’t overcharge. If you have a question just ask him. He knows what he’s talking about.

Dragged the process for as long as possible. That's his business model, stall, drag, delay so you can be billed with no end in sight. Frequently takes weeks if not months to respond and that's if he responds at all. Frankly, I think he's too old and should have retired years ago. Gives the impression of a confused old man with early signs of dementia. My advice, take your chance on ANYONE else.

Was my lawyer for a year. Great lawyer. Highly recommend. Knows what is going on and tells you how to make a better case. Didn't overcharge me at all. Write your questions down and ask. He'll answer quickly. Really liked this lawyer.

Super lawyer. Totally honest with me. Kept me from going overboard. I was nervus in court and he totally defended me. Most liked how he would listen but tell me if I was off base and say what better way was.

Gave him evidence of physical abuse of my children, he did nothing. Said we don't do abuse in family court while he went to town playing out a sick allegation game with his bench friend. Read his cases on Canlii and see the stark contrast with his "correctness" approach that he told you to follow and the outcome of his cases. Mind you, he only proposes what the law should give you anyway. Follow his "correct" advice and you are so far down the path that he's got you were he can keep playing and delaying while the "need more money" e-mails come in. For someone who knows all the judges, he certainly gets it all wrong but that doesn't matter. What matters is evident on his red lobster hangover head that he comes in with. He doesn't need the prep, he knows it all as you get taken to the cleaners. Your family case is a serious matter. Don't blow it here on a well-honed institutional fraud who's sacked plenty of children's lives to keep his lifestyle going.
