I had seen Ian for a legal separation. I found him to be straight forward, very knowledgeable, precise, thorough, blunt and to the point which at times is exactly what I needed. I sought help to bring closure to a custody suit that had lasted the duration of our child’s childhood. I very much appreciated Ian’s thoroughness, in ensuring that this would be the FINAL time having to deal with legal matters for my now adult child. Not only was Mr. Laxer very professional, but also quite patient and understanding (qualities one rarely finds in a lawyer!), while going over all the finer details of previous Orders. Once all matters were in order, a final judgment occurred in a very timely matter. After years of back and forth with different lawyers, this was such a pleasant and unexpected outcome. It was an absolute pleasure to deal with a lawyer who spoke to me, instead of over me. Ian was also quite accommodating with scheduling meetings, as I work long hours, and have very tight availability.

If you don’t want to get thrown under the bus going through a divorce settlement, hire this man! Great same-day response with email, flexible meetings in his office or at restaurants, attention to legal details, and he strongly advocates on your behalf. He’s also good with property calculations, which sounds like it should be a basic thing, but I’ve heard of lawyers making simple mistakes that can cost thousands of dollars. Ian actually spent an hour on the phone explaining one calculation to the other lawyer, a real shrew, who did not understand the calculation at first, and then she explained it to her client (my ex). That one calculation swung $11,000 extra my way, and nobody would have noticed it, including myself! That was a beautiful thing. In my case he was also pretty generous with his billing even though I double checked my bill every time. You can be sure you are not being over charged.

After seeing the non-responsiveness of my first lawyer, I started calling other law firms. Ian Laxer was recommended by a highly rated lawyer who was too busy to handle my case. It turns out Ian was a great choice! He has an economics background that comes into play with property decisions. He also has an ease with mathematics that was absent in other lawyers, who are sometimes error-prone with complex property calculations. I found out my previous lawyer had missed a couple of key items in my separation agreement. As a result, I had to pay less to my ex-spouse. And to my surprise his rates are quite reasonable! You’ll probably end up saving money due to the efficiency at which he handles your case. I wholeheartedly recommend Ian if you are going through a separation and require someone to handle your side of the split.
