fantastic lawyer. super real. does not take shiznit but also does not getting into any stupid ego contests either. most of the advice i got was more about how to improve my situation or circustance than the law bc she says good facts are more powerful than hoping for the right judge or right doling out of the law. correct advice. swears a lot and wears jeans lol

We really liked Jo. Jo used language we understood. She told us straight up the strengths and weaknesses of our case and advised us which battles we should fight and which ones were a waste of time and money. We appreciated the honest and practical advice. She actually made us sign a retainer that said she could fire us if we were acting in a way that she felt was not in our daughter's best interest. She also told us right away when we were doing things that hurt our case and helped us fix them to put a better foot forward. at first we were angry and defensive, but we soon understood the advice and how what we were doing was hurting our case and putting pressure on our kid. We spent a lot less thanks to not taking some bait a few times from the other lawyer. She said "don't take the golden banana" and now I know what she meant. Don't take any bait, pick your battles and take the high ground. She's solid and has balls of steel.

Jo helped me through a stressful family law issue as well as doing some personal legal work for me, and I recommend her to everyone I know. I've never had a lawyer help me understand my options and choose where to spend my money but this is what she did. Jo helped me actually understand how the system works and didn't waste my time. I really respected how she managed to be compassionate and understanding because it's so hard going through things and worrying about your kids, but I felt like she truly cared about their well-being. I'm so grateful for her skill and support, and the fact that she never played games like I've had a lawyer do in the past. If you see this, thanks again Jo!

The immature practice and anti-societal behaviours of Jo are in stark contrast to what she states in the Georgia Strait article. If one is considering her 'services' be aware she seems to have a poor reputation, no credibility or respect from legal peers. Seems to have a poor understanding of mediation or how to resolve family law disputes. Seemed to prefer to keep aggressively using court processes. This only leaves a bitter taste in everyones mouth and costs both parties a small fortune. Children are the ultimate victims of this style of law through financial burdens and immense strain on family. From my 1st hand experience I strongly do not recommend Jo. Formal complaint made to BC law society of her alleged perjury.

I have worked with Jo McFetridge on two occasions for two different legal matters, once in 2014 and once in 2017/18. I was immediately reassured by her straightforward communication and willingness to tell me not always what I was hoping to hear, but what I needed to hear. She was compassionate and intelligent, and in both circumstances was able to handle aggressive tactics in a calm, cool, and collected way. I have referred a number of friends to her practice and I've always been thanked by them for connecting them with Jo. I've also referred a family member who continues to work with her. Definitely 5 stars.

Jo McFetridge at Breakwater Law helped me through a very pesky immigration situation. She navigated the confusing Canadian/American forms very carefully, and got me sorted out quickly. Even though mine was a relatively small case, she and her assistant were both super helpful and responsive to my request. I won't hesitate to call Jo again, or refer others to her. Thanks Breakwater!

Jo got nothing done. Her emails looked like they were written by a child. Her assistant is an idiot, could never tell me anything. Both just talked and talked and talked and said nothing. Uses big words to make herself look smart. More interested in her own issues to keep up with current law. She is ill educated and ill prepared. I have since changed lawyers with much more success. I was referred to the firm for a property purchase in late 2017 and the lawyer and his assistant that handled it were excellent.
