My experience with Caspar was excellent. His calm demeanour, ability to clearly explain legal concepts, and strong work ethic were very evident. He goes the extra mile to get pressing matters completed on time and always keeps clients aware of the situation and next steps. He is an experienced lawyer and very knowledgeable. Caspar was kind and prompt. He worked extra hard to finish the separation agreement before he left on vacation. He was a patient and fair mediator. When I spoke to my own lawyer for Independent Legal Advice, she said the separation agreement was well drafted.

Caspar van Baal recently represented me in my separation. He was always very professional and courteous, highly dependable and reliable, and very knowledgeable on family law. He was a calming influence during some very tense moments during the development of the separation agreement. Caspar is an excellent lawyer. He is exceedingly kind and was great at calming my nerves during the entire process of my separation. He is deeply knowledgeable, always had an answer to my questions and if not, he would research it and inform me. His services are perfect in my view. Working with Covid 19 restrictions was a challenge, but he always responded promptly to my emails. He worked around his and my availability for phone calls. I found Caspar to not be engaged in my case. Constantly had to follow up - only to hear the same promises over and over...which is rather costly and not at all efficient at getting the job done. Separation/divorce are bad enough. Adding Caspar to the mix was disastrous for me.

Caspar was always extremely pleasant and courteous to work with in what turned out to be a much more lengthy and acrimonious process than I had anticipated. He was quick to reply to me, clear about my options and realistic about my prospects. He had the best interests of my children at heart. He really shines in mediation meetings but in written back and forth sometimes loses details. I felt that he was entirely honest and transparent about all billing and financial matters but the duration, negotiations and minutiae made it really expensive for me. That’s not entirely on him though. I definitely hoped for a more favorable agreement but will say that my 2 friends who separated around the same time and who hired extremely aggressive non-collaborative divorce lawyers are still slogging it out, have paid more, are nowhere near an agreement and honestly, it looks like they’re going to have financial arrangements quite similar to mine. The law is pretty proscriptive about this stuff!

Throughout a process made very lengthy by indecision on the other side, Caspar provided well-informed advice and creative ideas. Communication was rapid and clear, and he listened to and incorporated my ideas too, where appropriate. I believe I had the best support I could have had.

More interested in billable hours. Had me waiting in a mtg room for 30 mins while he spoke to his colleage about my case -- and then charged me the full hour. Errors throughout the document he drafted -- made me wonder if that was so he could further bill me for changes.
