I am not an attorney. Below is based on my experience and concern as a consumer; so that, you can avoid what I encountered. Beware of this law firm's unsavory business practices. My lawyer cited a statute to charge me more than our contingency fee contract allowed. He was lying and attempting to trick me. Only a judge who signs a court order can grant attorney's fees based on a statute, rule, or contract. If your situation is similar, consider filing 11th Circuit Court Professional Ethics Panel and Florida Bar complaints. Although it took time, I contested the gross overcharge and won. To protect yourself,
a) Do not sign a power of attorney allowing any lawyer to endorse your settlement check
b) Put any issues in writing and request written responses
c) Do not threaten - be respectful
