Click to report rating    12/9/18   5     5     5     5     5   I hired Ms Labahn to consult on a criminal case. She was informed, insightful, and got results. When advocating for me, her words were succinct and strategic. I am sympathetic to the above poster because legal counsel is rarely cheap. But I thought the prices were fair and I did receive clear estimates. I didn’t get the sense that Labahn was exclusively profit-driven. On the contrary, she was conscientious and took a genuine interest in my case. I found her easy to talk to, even when I was at my worst. She helped me sort out my confusion about the law with direct, no-nonsense advice. I wouldn’t characterize her as a pushover as in the other review. But if your idea of a strong lawyer is the loud, domineering type, her technique may be hard to appreciate. She has a friendly, collegial demeanour, but she's nonetheless very competent. You don’t win cases by marching around in an authoritarian and demanding manner. You win with well-reasoned arguments. And she has those in abundance. RID: 206359
Click to report rating    4/10/17   2     2     1     1     2   She attempted to charge me $4500/day to argue bad points in court. She does not understand how police car cameras operate. She pushed for 3 lengthy days in court at atrocious costs. She allowed the RCMP to communicate with her in a manner which showed conflicts of interest to my representation. I found myself continually having to explain to her what my rights were. She failed to provide a costing statement when requested (to ensure that I was not being charged for her meeting time with the RCMP); she eventually provided one two weeks after requested. I feel this person was too focused on maximizing their profit, at the expense of the client. She would not argue points for me, and I ultimately had to work for the results myself. A total pushover to the RCMP, the last thing you want for criminal defense. Might seem better if your trying to get off for something that your guilty of. But I was seeking representation on a police brutality case. Bad experience for me, not helpful. RID: 183136
