I would not recommend using her in a family law case. She will eat away at your retainer very quickly without producing any tangible work. Is disinterested in producing any results or providing any kind of actual legal advice. She will bill you 0.1 of an hour just to send an email to setup an appointment, 0.1 of an hour for every interaction even if that interaction has nothing to do with your case. I was billed for an email from her informing me that she would be off on sick leave which is ridiculous as it has nothing to do with my case or a communication initiated by me. During our zoom mediation she would go on mute and video off and work on other cases and bill me while most likely also bill the other client. We took a lunch break during mediation again I was billed for this. At the end of the day she cost me over 20k and produced no results. I fired her and settled directly with my ex's lawyer. I produced more measurable results in one month than she did in the 7+ months.

I also was referred through my FEAP Plan. It's not easy to choose a lawyer when under the emotional strain of a litigious divorce. In our first discussions, I found Ms. Acosta to be thoughtful, articulate and thorough. My case required constant followup and clarification with the other side over a 2-year period. None of it was easy. Ms Acosta kept at it, she gave clear and consistent advice, and she worked hard on my behalf. We stayed the course and got a good and fair settlement in Mediation, thus avoiding an expensive trial. She kept us on the path of the outcome we wanted, and she achieved it. It was difficult for me in the beginning to understand the legal process, and although we had some heated discussions, she was able to calm me down and explain the details. It wasn't an inexpensive process, but the positive outcome was the important thing.

Desiree was unprofessional, rude, arrogant seems to have no moral integrity. Paid no mind to being factual. She has no skills in dealing with people who are going through considerable emotional pain as is the case in most family law matters. Retained months ago but knew nothing of the basic info of my child or info about where family and son was from and raised. No concept of the legitimacy of what constitutes a valid agreement that stands the basics of a legal test. No respect for fellow legal counsel or time and money. She cost me a small fortune and did nothing other than make the whole situation worse off than it was, she totally caved in court and let the other junior lawyer walk all over her and in the process screwing my life over. I would not recommend Desiree to anyone that I care about.

Please do your extensive research on your own before hiring Desiree. She was fined and partially suspended by Law Society of British Columbia over her professional misconduct and incompetent performance of her duties by the discipline hearings committee.She has no integrity and would send you through the rabbit holes to make more money out of anyone.

This wicked lawyer was appointed by a wicked judge to sabotage my criminal defense. Before even reading any transcripts and interviewing her forced client she limited herself to one day of questioning the main false witness on the stand, when there were issues that had gone on for 14 years!! - Desiree was warned to have nothing to do with this case because of her extreme prejudice (on top of the fact that she is not even qualified to do criminal cases!!) but she refused. She also refused to give me the transcripts that were given to her which she had no use for after her sabotage of my defense. She and her law firm - RWE Law -are all cursed along with all that enable them.

Desiree is a truly excellent family lawyer. She always knew what to do as we moved through a crazy situation that I imagine would not come along everyday in a family lawyer's practice. Most importantly as a client she made me feel like a team member (with her as captain) through actively seeking my input on next steps before telling me what would or would not be tenable legally. Based on my case I feel she has a sense for when tact and diplomacy maybe called for versus when aggressively fighting for a parent's rights in court - something she's clearly very good at based on other comments - is the only way to go. Highly recommended!

I hired Desiree Acosta to help with a situation where my child's mother had gone and chosen a path of education for our child without my involvement. As I'm the primary caregiver for this child and all decisions are set in a previous court order to be bilateral between the mother and I there should have been no problem rectifying the situation. But Desiree lost everything she attempted in court and I was left with a new court order forcing my child to attend a school that's very far away from where the child and I live together during the week. During one court appearance Desiree had not even done the proper paper work ahead of time so the other party did not show up and were not reprimanded for it as it was Desiree's fault and not theirs. Then during the same appearance Desiree upset the judge by misaddressing something and so the rest of the appearance was spend with the judge and her bickering to each other about technicalities outside of my legal matters. This all costed ~$8K CAN
