Mark was my lawyer during my divorce. He made the entire situation easy to understand. He was incredibly patient and kind to my situation and made sure I understood the entire process and what was happening. Mark was upfront with me during my whole case, he answered my phone calls and questions quickly and accurately. His performance before the judge and with crown was outstanding and impressive to watch. He even took the time to meet with me in person while in custody during COVID. Mark handled my spouse’s Family Law case professionally and efficiently. What could have easily been prolonged into years of conflict and negotiating was resolved solely by Mark in 9 months despite the COVID pandemic. All accolades about/for Mark are understatements as to his professionalism, knowledge, empathy and insight. About 16 months ago, thru legal aid, he commenced representation for my daughter in her endeavors to regain custody of her children. At that point, hope was a challenging thought. It had been a long road. There were many twists and turns. Almost 12 months ago to the day, she did go to rehab. For the last 9 months, she has been working full-time and within the last month, the children were returned to her!! Yes, she had to make the commitment and do the hard work, but I truly believe that without Mark's involvement we would not be where we are today.....looking forward to Christmas a family! I do not believe that you could find better representation from anyone!

Mark is fantastic for family law (which is what I hired him for). He is immensely knowledgeable about how the system works out here in BC and will absolutely fight to make sure you are treated fairly. I'm not good at being aggressive, but you need someone strong of mind in your corner when it comes to dealing with court issues and Mark did not let down. I had actually originally heard about him from a previous review a father had put up, and I'm glad I did.

I highly recommend retaining Mr. Chiu for all your family legal matters. He has an extensive understanding of family law, including the ability to consider the sensitive and personal issues involved. He used his expertise to stop my ex-spouse and her lawyer from changing my existing joint custody agreement. He not only maintained the agreement, but he also insured that the agreement could not be contested in the future. He worked hard to achieve the results promptly and efficiently. My friend referred me to Mr Chiu. She had a very bad experience with several lawyers before and lost her cases in court. Mr Chiu managed to change everything for her and won every single case. He spent many hours to deal with her complicated case. She was extremely happy with the result at the end. I also have been dealing with divorce, child custody and parental rights for past 5 years. My first lawyer did a terrible job and I had no choice but to fire him. Mr Chiu was kind enough to accept my case and I can see that he is spending all his energy, time, effort to help me with this case. I haven't seen my daughter for over a year and half. I am amazed by his tactics, strategy, ideas, etc considering the fact that he is a young gentleman. I have a trial in this coming November and I hope for the best. After being provided evidence that my children were being raped at the home of John and Ginette Bolegoh at 2044 Southview Ave Mark said it does not happen. Just plain as day no rape in care. Then it turns out he is recruited over this case by mcfd worker Curt Baker into a Mason cult. All ped0s. If someone kills these ppl I will pay them. Police too. Enough is enough

What can I say about Mark J Chiu? I think the word God-Send comes to mind. In my personal opinion Mark Chui is a great attorney. I recently had a very difficult family case which involved child support and custody. Mark handled it with a great deal of professionalism. I have some serious anxiety issues and I can honestly say without his assistance I would never have been able to get through it. From the moment I met him he treated me like a friend and that is hard to find when it comes to legal aid. I would recommend him to anyone who is going through a divorce or a custody battle. There are a few negative reviews on this site and everyone is entitled to their own opinions but in my case whether I won or lost I would still recommend Mark Chui to a friend if they were going through what I’ve gone through. Several months after drawing up our original Separation Agreement, I realized that my estranged husband had taken unfair advantage of my state of mind. I contacted Mr Chiu to help me have the agreement amended. While some lawyers may have chosen not to take on a case such as mine, Mr Chiu was up for the challenge. Mark took over my case from my previous lawyer. We were trying to move to Alberta, seeking full custody, and child and spousal support.
Mark didn’t give me false hopes or empty promises. He reviewed lots of financial documents and text messages.
Mark was excellent at defusing situations without unneeded escalations.
My previous lawyer made promises, pushed back trial, and I felt that he did not fight for my interests or even cared about me.
Mark listened, gave options, and helped me understand what was actually obtainable.
He tried to resolve problems without trial but ultimately we did an 8-day trial, and we won!
Mark is a lawyer who really wants to help and goes after it too.

Lazy lawyer who does NOT listen to his client, like so many other lawyers. Did not even speak in the two family case conferences I had even though he had the info so I spoke on own behalf instead. Messed up my legal aide file and went ahead and voiced his own strategy without checking with me first. He is rookie type of lawyer and claims to know family and criminal law? Seriously would not want him for a criminal case if he cannot even handle a family case conference. Said he would do certain things like speak to the opposing family in person and ask for extension to legal aide but did not and just delayed things even further. Suggest him for the opposing party but not yourself. Also showed up to court last minute as he was on a date as I found out on my flight back home sitting next to her as I attended from out of town for court. Money hungry as most lawyers but with limited experience. Better off self representing, duty council or another lawyer with more experience.

Mark took on my very complex family case and with relatively limited time was able to not only successfully contest an application on my behalf but with Mark's superb communication skills and deep understanding of family law he made it very easy for us to discuss the options before me and come to clear and concise plan of action for a cross application. Which in turn Mark easily brought before the courts and had orders made in my favor. I have had other lawyers in the past that would not make an effort to convey my wishes or my concerns to a judge in several appearances before family Supreme Court. Mark was honest and didn't sugar-coat the law to give me a sense that I was entitled to more then I was. He took the stress of it all off my shoulders.
