Magistrate Michael Fortune has to decide if abused kids go back to their parents that have abused them. He relies on attorneys & the state case workers to give him info about these kids & how they're doing in foster care. (That's how trials work, duh!!!) Most abusive parents won't stay off drugs long enough to get their kid back. He's very fair and really cares about the kids. The bad reviews are from abusive parents that didn't get their kids back!!! He even lets dogs in his courtroom to comfort the abused kids.

Magistrate Fortune is a well-intentioned, but ultimately inept, magistrate in the juvenile court system of Knox County. He glosses over and ignores illegal activity within his court-room, doesn't really understand the law (and often looks to the attorneys and case workers within the room for guidance), and is easily swayed. In one DCS case where the mother had abused a child, he completely forgot about the reason the child was brought into care, and offered to let the birth dad "supervise" mother's visits with the child. Thankfully, DCS stepped in and gently reminded him that this was not a good idea. I get the sense that he's on "auto pilot" in the court-room.
