Came here to say thank you so much Justice Bruhn. I helped my friend do all of her family court documents and you were incredibly fair and considerate in your Order. We were worried whoever read our documents would some how allow that horrible man any form of custody whatsoever. The fact that you specifically allowed for her to ask for a sobriety test before visitation? Unreal and amazing! Thank you for taking the time to read everything and see past his bs.

Josie Bruhn runs a family practice from her home office in Barrie, Ontario. I had the great fortune to contact her when my husband announced he was moving out. Of greatest concern was my livelihood, as I was in my mid-fifties, and had been employed by the man who was about to become my “ex”.
Immediately, meetings with Josie became the still safe points in a turbulent world, where I could get questions answered, run scenarios of possible outcomes, talk about the likely course of action, and most of all be assured that the law is both rational and compassionate. She is a clear communicator, a highly effective advocate, and a warm human being. Josie represented me from 2017 to the present because my original lawyer left on maternity leave. Josie came highly recommended by several very well-regarded family lawyers. I found her to be extremely knowledgeable, fair, articulate, and easy to work with. She responded to my concerns quickly and professionally. She approached things pragmatically, and suggested options and the pros and cons of each choice, so that I could feel comfortable and confident on how to proceed. She would frame those choices in both regards of financial considerations, as well as what the possible outcomes for the co-parent relationship and what would be in the best interest of children. She operates with integrity and honesty, which allowed me to do the same. I believe that she best protected my interests and steered me through a confusing and emotional process with caring and grace. I have no hesitation recommending her to others.

I read the comment below and I honestly thought she wrote it for herself. A client wouldn't write what judges think of her, they just wouldn't know. In my experience of getting a consultation with her, what I found was that she told me the worst case scenario. Why it still haunts me years later is that she did it in a cold blunt fashion. Thankfully I went with a different lawyer and got the result, the exact result, that I needed. I didn't follow her advice to go as long as I could avoiding court. I also found that she was more concerned with staying "friends" with lawyers, so that she cannot zealously represent you. That she works from her house and was distracting for someone wasn't something I cared about- unless you get billed by the hour for it. Then I would have had an issue with it. For me, it was the horrible advice, and said with such cattiness and contempt that bothered me, and still does.

Josie's knowledge of the law is unparalleled in my opinion and she uses that knowledge to guide her clients towards a successful resolution. She is fair, level-headed and extremely approachable. She presents the issues in a fair and equitable manner and encourages her clients look at things the same way. In my experience, she is extremely well-respected by other lawyers and by judges in the family court because of these attributes. They give serious thought and consideration to her words and her opinions because they know she is fair and well-versed in the appropriateness of what she is asking for. Furthermore, she is firm, strong and well-spoken which further inspires respect and confidence in the courtroom. To be quite honest, I do consider her to be the best family law lawyer in Barrie and feel lucky to have had her representing me and assisting me in both of my matters.

Josie has been nothing but courteous during a difficult and has always been mindful of my budget during a costly, high conflict custody process. Josie has an incredible understanding of family court and what is fair for the child and both parties. She is honest and realistic- even if the outcome is not what the desired answer is, so she prepares you for all scenarios of pursuing an issue.

Josie represented me in 1999 in regards to my divorce and more recently, I returned to her and she provided assistance in regard to a common-law separation. Her knowledge of the law and its implications was spot on. She was professional, compassionate, and did her best both times to obtain a reasonable outcome for me. Her office is in her family home (which I had no issue with) and her hourly rate is reflective of that – she was honest in her billing practices. I highly recommend Josie to anyone looking for a smooth and efficient solution to their family law issues.

Terrible lawyer and waste of money. Had to deal with her tending to sick children, animals, and service people coming to the door during our meetings in her "work from home office". Took her hours to complete paperwork due to these interruptions. She won't say a word in court as she is too confused and incompetent to stand up for her client. Your better off hiring a committed lawyer.
