Click to report rating    12/16/21   1     1     1     1     1   I had to fire him after a year and a half. I got more done self representing for 8 months before getting a new lawyer. He would get steamroller in court, and offered bad advice. I had to file a motion and wanted costs awarded. He had the cost deferred and I eventually found out from my new lawyer that I had to get costs awarded at that time and that the court doesn't defer costs anymore so eventhough I was successfully granted my motion I couldn't recover cost anymore. His assistant forwarded time sensitive communications 10days after they were received by his office costing me access to my children for several months as my ex used the lack of response on her time frame as an excuse to renege on our agreement sending me back to court again. Then it took Mr Duplain 4 months to get me in front of a judge with a motion for access. After 2.5yrs in court my divorce was delayed because Steve Duplain screwed up the original filing and my new lawyer had to refile the paperwork. RID: 231657

Click to report rating    4/25/18   1     1     1     1     1   i wish i had looked at the ratings before we engaged steve. he is exactly how all the negative reviews describe him. he avoids taking any sort of stance in favour of his client. he is not effective in court or with the opposing counsel. he was condescending and often too casual and glib at times. If you are in a serious situation trying to gain access to your kids, avoid this lawyer ! my sons legal aid certificate was denied, and now i wonder if he had anything to do with this. SUCH a bad experience. AVOID! RID: 198653
1/12/17   4     2     2     3     3   Though knowledgeable, he tends to veer away from anything that may be combative or may lead to court. He lacks tenacity and the killer instinct required at times. Additionally, his communications are often late, poorly crafted, and riddled with grammatical errors. He does exude a certain level of compassion, which is rare in his field. Depending on what outcome you seek, he is probably not the best choice for highly volatile and time sensitive cases. Click to report rating    3/9/16   4     3     2     2     2   Steve is not a bad lawyer, just a bad litigator. He is knowledgeable, and will handle your divorce just fine unless you have to go to court. He makes the mistake of assuming you won't end up in court, continually says that only 2% of divorces go to trial, and is unprepared for court. Shares an assistant, which is hugely problematic for anything time sensitive. The fallout of not being forwarded communications in a timely manner has cost me financially, legally, and personally. I'd you want someone who knows the insurance and outs of the law and can prepare documents then he is good value. If you want someone to fight for you FORGET IT, and pray your ex's lawyer isn't a weasel. RID: 166439
