For me Jamie was a God-sent angel. His knowledge and savvy managed to turn tables upside down. Before we started the legal proceedings my chances were 0% custody/access and 100% hefty divorce arrears. That challenging situation put Jamie in a fighting position on multiple fronts. to name a few: CAS, OCL, overseas Sharia-based jurisdictions. On top of that he had to deal with my ignorance and emotional responses with the most patient and diligent manner. At the end of the legal proceedings, I had 50-50% custody and access over my children and paid $0 in divorce arrears. Words will never convey my appreciation for this attorney’s tremendous representation. While initially, I thought I had little chance of getting custody or access to my three children. Jamie explained complex items by giving real-life examples or potential scenarios and outcomes. Jamie is thorough, and will advise when to take a firm line vs. making a potential concession. I was feeling hopeless and exhausted with my existing child custody and access agreement. After living with the agreement for some time, I knew things needed to change for my baby to have his best life. From our 1st meeting, I knew he was the one, with his very calming yet assertive personality. He has a great sense of humour, which is much welcome in sensitive/ emotional situations like dealing with divorce. From the very first consultation pertaining to a separation agreement, he was very honest and straight up with the facts, expectations, and costs associated with opening a can of worms and potentially going to trial. I had started with another lawyer at another firm and felt like I was being directed poorly (it had taken 1 year and no movement on my case) and was told that Dad's just get the worst end of the stick. After reading reviews on James I decided to go for a consultation. After 1 meeting I had more information then I had in 1 year. I hired him immediately. My case was signed and sealed and finished within months. I was extremely happy with the results. He was fast, efficient and responded immediately to all of my questions and requests. If you are looking for a lawyer who is honest, fair and a great negotiator for you, James Mountford is the that lawyer. Prior to meeting with Mr. Mountford, I was in a situation where my ex-wife absolutely refused to negotiate anything, she withheld my access, she wanted the home and all of its contents and when the home was sold she wanted all of the equity in the home. Her lawyer was one who delayed, refused to consent to anything and refused to negotiate with the lawyer I had at the time.
I met with Mr. Mountford prior to this matter going to trial and he was understanding of my needs and my situation. He was honest and told me what I could and could not expect from the court system in Hamilton. He was able to negotiate a final settlement and saved me the expense of going to trial.

I would highly recommend James to anyone searching for a family lawyer. He has been extremely helpful, spends the time explaining every detail and all your options. He is very attentive. Extremely knowledgeable and really knows how to word things. I also feel that James really truly cares about what is best for the child. I wen't with my mother to meet Jamie who was recommended by Susan sullivan. He was honest with my Mother who was trying to get my daughter temporary kinship. He was honest and advised that it could not be done in her unreasonable time line. Thankfully I attended the meeting and witnessed his knowledgeable, patient, and sincere approach and I was astonished with his knowledge of the parties we were involved with their demeanor and was aware of the activity and methods they used on my case and had no doubt that our allegations were true.

James is an excellent lawyer who is compassionate, knowledgeable, and very experienced. He is very effective in a courtroom and has no hesitation about taking a matter to trial. I feel like he is "a lawyer's lawyer" because when my friend's case went to trial, her lawyer hired Jamie to do the trial (to good effect).
