She was recommended as a behind the scenes help for self repping, and legal advice. She communicated well, however, when submitting retainer contract, and the retainer, email was wrong (contract was out of date) and she took days to accept the retainer (which she never actually did). Since I submitted my payment, I emailed (on a Saturday) in regards to advice on a heated situation between my ex and I and the kids. She did not respond. Not until Monday am with a reply of “what do you need to worry or panic about?”! I replied explaining and asking to start emerg parenting (we have nothing in place legally). No response so I emailed at 4pm asking for more clarification on her process. No reply. At 7pm I cancels the emt, within mins I got a nasty email that she has a life and doesn’t work wknds or evenings and she was closing my file! Rude!

Helen, has been amazing to me and my 4 boys! She is knowledgeable, kind, and excellent in court. She also has a physiology degree, therefore she understands difficult people more than most. I highly recommend Helen as a lawyer and will never be able to thank her enough for all she has done for us!

Fantastic family lawyer: deep knowledge of case law and excellent value. Specializes in high conflict and narcissistic opponents: her approach is tough precisely because that's what works in these cases. She's only one of two lawyers in YYC who built their practice exclusively around these types of cases. For example, I knew that any sort of mediation would never work with my ex. While many lawyers would pursue mediation, Helen suggested it was a waste of time and money. The downside? She is overworked (sole practitioner) and her communication style can be poor and off-putting. If your case is high conflict because of your ex, I cannot recommend her enough.

I had to laugh at the reviews that suggest Helen is a narcissist. Don't confuse "tough love" with narcissism. (My ex and my mother are both narcs so I can recognize the difference!) I hired Helen to get me 50/50 shared custody of my daughter. I had been fighting for that since separation and was frustrated by the bias against dads every time I went to court. Helen told me that if I followed her advice, I had a very good chance of success. As it happened, she mopped the floor with my ex-wife's lawyer who looked like a bumbling idiot in comparison (despite being a lawyer for 30+ year). I doubt I could have found someone who was better in court than Helen. Chelsea (my daughter)and I will never forget what she did for us. If you are a dad seeking to get equal rights to your kids, I highly recommend that you hire Helen.

Helen is a good example of everything that is wrong with the court system. She is a narcissist or something similar, and a very dark person inside. If she fails, she will place the blame squarely on you. She doesn't have kids but believes to be an expert at raising them. She will turn on you and lash out so often you would almost swear she was the opposing lawyer and not yours; she has no integrity. Aggressive and demeaning comments are her specialty. She will tear you down as a human before helping you. She has a lighting-quick temper and resembles a bull in a china shop. My kids have scars on them from the other parent abusing them, however Helen was adamant I was the problem and would get angry when questioned. She will lash out and lie on a whim. Run the other direction if you truly need help. It is a failing business with no integrity or concept of the big picture. If I can save one person from making the same mistake, that will be enough. If you do proceed, you've been warned.

i wasn't going to bother rating helen, but i decided that if i could prevent someone else making the same mistake as i did, then i should. she seemed to know what she was talking about and eager to do her best for me in the beginning, but that changed after a couple month's. she is very hostile and angry. i had a very hard time getting a hold of her, and when i finally did she talked to me like she couldn't wait to get off the phone. she missed one of my court appearances, and when she did finally make the next few appearances she seemed angry she was there. i asked her a question outside the court room and she raised her voice and made a scene. i am definitely looking into getting a actual lawyer who does their job and appealing the decision. avoid retaining her at all costs

Helen Banks is by far one of the most impressive lawyers I have had the privilege to work with. Upon my initial consultation with Helen she immediately told me how to navigate the process to achieve my desired outcome, she is very knowledgeable and understanding, Helen was prepared and educated upon every situation that had arisen, I do not have enough words to express how greatfull I am to have Helen as my lawyer. I would not want any other lawyer to stand in my defence other than Helen Banks .... Thank you so much Helen you are amazing

Helen's methods are a winning combination. Trust that she will catch the finer intricacies of your case and the result you want will come. She can make a compelling argument on your behalf with a couple hours of meetings and any emails/documents you can provide her. She cares more about furthering her skill set than financial gain. You can see that in the way she acts. Her firm does not nickel and dime you to death with disbursement fees which is a pleasant surprise. I believe I was lucky enough to catch someone that will have a very successful future.

I am extremely pleased with her work and advice. Helen is helpful, understanding and knowledgeable. My common-law relationship should have ended years ago, but myself not knowing what I should or could do was one of the biggest obstacles holding me back from making the right decision and ending my inequitable and toxic relationship. I spoke with many other lawyers before Helen, but honestly they all fell short of my expectations and need. They were not helpful. I wish I found Helen seven years ago. I highly recommend her if you are like me sitting on the fence for so long.

This woman Helen Banks has been on my case for a year and she is not very knowledgeable to the family court system. She tells her clients failed info like that she can get court ordered drug tests which is not the case. She has been told by the judge himself that's she needs to relearn some Family law. She will dig herself a hole she cannot get out of.... lawyers are suppose to be good at bending the truth she just gets caught in her lies. Bad lawyer Bad reviews across the board.

Helen took me on as a client when no one else would. I had already had one very experienced lawyer that wouldn't fight for me and my kids and that's never the case with Ms Banks. She is knowledgeable, gets back to me very quickly, understands the psychology of a terrible divorce, has shown amazing perseverance, and has an excellent and knowledgeable assistant. She had also proved that she is great in the courtroom. Many of my friend and family only complain about their lawyers, (not returning calls or the bills they pay), but I am so thankful for Ms Banks and the work she has put into my case over the last couple years, I don't know where me and my three young children would be without her.
