During mediation my comments were quickly brushed away with "its not important" and the other party was permitted to drone on and on for pretty much the entire session. Found her to be narrow minded and out of date when it came to coparenting with someone who has personality disorders/mental health issues and a history of domestic violence as she seems clueless about domestic violence and the impacts on communication. The only good thing is that it saved on lawyer fees but thats cause she pushes for a quick resolution even though on party prettu much gets bullied and pushed to the side during her sessions.

Ms. Shaften is empathetic, caring and knowledgeable. She explained the law and the potential outcomes of our case and offered us different ways to proceed. We were not able to afford her regular rates so she charged us less than half. Not everything went our way, but we understood what was happening. If we needed legal help again we would hire her again.

Retained as legal counsel for the child. When retained she met with child and father several times before meeting with mother in a legal capacity (July 2020), who was self-representing at that time. She openly condemned mother's actions regarding child's past disclosures which were fully investigated by appropriate professionals. She told mother that children don't always tell the truth. The mother had parenting and mental health assessed with positive results, no issues flagged. Ms. Shaften in January 2021 took extreme measures to remove the child from the mother's care based on the child's disclosures and against an order for 50/50 parenting her office drafted. Father has never had parenting or mental health assessed. A PN7 report came out with a number of red flags about the father.Ms.Shaften ignored all of this and continues to favor the father.Even only meeting with the child while in dad's care. Unprofessional,no integrety, dishonest, not able to act in best interest of child.

Jennifer has a reputation, and if you observe how other lawyers, judges and folks in the Family Law business respond and interact with Jennifer it will become clear. Jennifer is very well respected, has a fantastic knowledge base and knows how to apply that knowledge. She cares, has integrity, and is honest. Which, if your are her client you must be prepared for......she will tell you what you "need" to hear, not what you "want" to hear. For me and my situation, she was a blessing, always balanced and kept me balanced. I put tenacity at a 3 because of her balance...you don't want a lawyer who just wants to "win" they cost you more in the long run...but trust me when I say this, if the time comes when tenacity is required, and as a client you are in the right....watch her go. But the balance to that is, if your the BSC one, she will let you know, because that is what is right.

Jen was great and her assistant is an all-star. Was fantastic at getting back to me whenever I have minor questions (and I had a lot) and documentation and meetings were always well scheduled and on time.

I think what really set Jen apart for me was her empathy for my situation. I wasn't the easiest to work with due to my work schedule and being a separated mom, but she was patient and worked around my schedule

Knowledge: Easily the most informed lawyer I met with. Communication: She and her assistant always kept me in the loop. Tenacity: I felt she was putting forth a strong effort. Work quality: I'm not a lawyer, but it seemed great. Value: I won my case, and what I paid to do so was well worth it.
