I sadly agree with others who have taken the time to comment on Helen Chiu. She has been riding on her reputation from years ago. I hired Helen Chiu before the pandemic. I made the mistake of trusting her with my situation. She intentionally made the matters more complicated than they needed to be. I thought she would defend me. In the end, I spent far too much time/money and got almost nothing. She never told me other cost effective methods to settle my divorce beside going to the court. She was unprepared and incompetent in front of the judge. She failed to draft the required forms according to the proper format. Do your own research. You have been warned!!!

I had a horrible experience with Helen Chiu too. She was quick to blame everyone else for her mistakes! Dragged on my case forever and convinced me there would be a bigger settlement. In the end, I had to pay her with all the money I received. She is not there for you but for her fees.

Absolutely incompetent. Chiu didn't know the contextual and purposive interpretations of the laws. She only talked about the textual meaning in the court. I could google and present it myself. Stop bragging nonsense.

I had a consultation with Helen Chiu last winter. Her knowledge of the jurisprudence was a decade old. She was unfamiliar with the amendments of Family Law Act after 2013. She did not understand the principals of Wills, Estates and Succession Act, Arbitration Act and Business Corporations Act. She may be ok with simple divorces but be aware if your case involves more than a principal residence.

From the comments, it seems some of Helen Chiu’s clients enjoyed the divorce. Hope it is not a self-promotion! I retained her a few years ago. She told me to trust her judgement and count on her experience. Her judgements were to do nothing to defend me and to do everything recommended by my ex’s lawyer. She had experiences in mumbling facts in broken English and arguing with the JUDGE over a few trivial matters in the court. Initially, she estimated that the total legal cost would be a few thousand dollars. In reality, it was a few thousand dollars per month. The divorce left me without a home, no healthcare and financially ruined. I asked other lawyers looked over the divorce papers. They all agreed that Helen performed a terrible job on my behalf and pointed out the same crucial errors. If I could turn back time I would not hire her.

Having her as my lawyer was worse than marrying my ex. She talked a great game plan, so I trusted her with my divorce. She insisted to push for a very aggressive approach. I followed her advices only to find out she was completely clueless and unprepared. I had to correct her spelling and grammatical errors. She submitted an outdated financial statement and did not prepare a property appraisal report. It costed my case. The only thing she gave me were “courtesy discounts.” Her discounts were just lipstick on a pig.

I don't know or care what other commented about my lawyer Helen Chiu. At the end of the day, she helped me gain full access to my son and provided me with a fair financial division of assets. Without her, I probably would be living by the dumpster and not able to see my son. She changed my son and my lives. Thank you Helen. This is Eddie. Helen puts her financial interests ahead of her clients. Although she has some years of experience in family law, she gives misleading advices and encourages clients to pursue issues in the court that only benefits herself financially. Mediation and Legal Aid Services are never an option. I feel that she is in it just for the money and I do not feel that she justifies the horrendous rates she charges.

Helen is reasonable. Her fee is higher than other lawyers, but it is negotiable as long as you give a reason.
