I hired Lauren for a child custody case. She showed up for my hearing with 5 minutes to spare and arrived unprepared for court. I watched in horror as she kept looking down to read sticky notes about my case as she fumbled over her words. We were subsequently destroyed by the other attorney who was clearly well prepared. No apologies, no strategy, no follow up consultations. I've never experienced such a lack of professionalism. When I fired her I was reminded that I signed a non-refundable retainer agreement and she kept my money. The expensive lesson I learned is if your attorney needs a non-refundable retainer there might be a reason.
