Val promised a lot in our first meeting! After that she just yelled and swore at me and blamed me for her not being able to make a deal, then I never heard from her for 2 weeks (About the amount of time she said she needed to get my kids back) after driving to her office just to find out she was in Miami I finally got a response from Val in which time we made an appointment for a video call, the first call was only 30min and we made yet another appointment this time Val was too busy trying to find her air B and B in Miami so she chose to hang up on me! I emailed Val to explain how unhappy I was and she fired me and immediately emailed apposing counsel to inform them she is no longer representing me! Worst experience of my life! Waste of time and money! Wish I learned of her drug addictions and mental illness prior to hiring her

After going through 3 previous lawyers, Val Hemminger personally lead my case. She gave me the time to fully hear all the details and lengthy back story of my family law court issue. I felt heard and understood. She fully put forward the needs of my son more than anything else. I am so grateful for her wisdom and navigation through the court system on our behalf. The outcome leaves me with a lifetime of appreciation.

I highly recommend Val Hemminger if you have a family law matter on Vancouver Island, like I did. She is absolutely fantastic. She works tremendously hard, extremely knowledgable, cares about her clients, and is an excellent communicator.

Val and her staff are wonderful! Val has the knowledge and is well versed in the Family Law Act. She was truly amazing to watch in court and I am very grateful I found her. Her and her staff worked very hard on my case, which was evident when we were in trial. Val was inspiring to watch in court (my only regret is that I didn't bring the popcorn to watch her in action). She advised me I wouldn't get validation in court, but by day three of the trial, I had got it. No one wants or expects to be in a high conflict custody case, I am just thankful I found Val to help me through it (her assistant, Candy, is pretty amazing too). Val helped me get my life back and stand up to my abuser. I know my life (and my child's) is much better off, because I met Val. 'Thank you', is not a strong enough word for all she (and her staff) have done for my family.

Honestly, Val works harder than anyone I’ve ever met. Her brain is amazing. She’ll listen closely and give you honest feedback. She won’t feed you false expectations. She cares about the kid. If you’re out for warfare and destruction, she will kindly redirect you back to reality whether you like it or not. Clients arrive to family law in some severe emotional suffering. It takes a true warrior to meet you there, listen patiently to your baggage, and dedicate their career to getting you out. Remember, it was your own choices that got you in this hole. You’re allowed to feel angry, but don’t go blaming your lawyer for it all when she tells you the truth.

Val is extremely knowledgeable in her field. She handled my case well and always made time to answer any questions/concerns that I had with respect to my matter. I went thru a very nasty divorce and had a Separation agreement that my ex decided on numerous occasions he did not wish to honour. As a result, I was forced to hire a lawyer. The first lawyer I chose sort of got things going but did not seem to really understand the situation. My ex thought he would try and take me to court to end the agreement. I once again was forced to hire another lawyer and I was lucky to find Val. She got things taken care of and put an end to what had become years of anguish. She made sure I was part of the process and informed me of what she was doing every step of the way. I would highly recommend Val to anyone who needs a "tiger in their corner". She gets the job done and does it exceptionally well. Thanks Val!

Really bad. Can't believe the positive reviews. Did not listen. Had another lawyer come in to explain agreement and he got it wrong. Just bad. Cost me a toof money and had to get another lawyer to fix it. She sounds good at first but isnt

Being a young newly single mom with a difficult ex, Val and her team took me under theirs wings and explained the whole process step by step to me. I went through a separation and divorce with a difficult ex. My situation had the potential to be highly contentious. It was difficult for me not to get emotionally charged over relatively simple things. Val helped me stay grounded and was able to successfully negotiate the terms of my separation agreement without having to go to court. I have little confidence in Val's knowledge of the law. Her communication is deliberately obtuse to allow for more billing. She is not very tenacious in getting the results that you want (other reviewers will confirm). I think based on these points, her work quality and value are poor. Find a lawyer that knows the law and will work efficiently to get your matter resolved (not endless mediation without point).

Val was amazing at hearing all of my concerns and following my instructions. She was always honest about her concerns and was a fabulous detective in discovering what issues might lie ahead in proceedings. If she didn't know the answer to my question she was sure to find out quickly. Nothing was ever overlooked in my case and although tenacious was also very compassionate as well. I highly recommend Val and would seek her counsel again in the future.

Val has brought cleariry into my life with what she has done to help me with my court matters. I have not had good experiences with lawyers in the past. However, Val's sincerity and quick read of the situation gave me a lot of confidence. The glowing reports of Val on this site are hard for me digest. I cannot imagine a worse lawyer. My ex wife thinks clearly about her own needs and has always been very determined. I am neither assertive nor demanding. People said I would need a good lawyer, and Val told me she could be that good lawyer. Val said she would not accept this and would demand that but when we finally got down to negotiations she simply made no statements for me at all. When I pointed out that the DivorceMate settlement proposed left me with SUBSTANTIALLY less income than my ex wife (DivorceMate's notes state the payer is not supposed end up with less than the payee) Val's response at the meeting was, "Oh, you guys never want to pay." That still hurts. If you are thinking about hiring Val as a lawyer be careful and reflect on whether or not she has the heart to meet your particular needs. Based on these reviews it appears she may be a good lawyer for some and a poor lawyer for others.

I had a previous lawyer who did very little for my case. After I went to Val, she knocked it out of the park. She was amazing in court and after just one court application, the writing was on the wall so the other side finally became reasonable with me and settled. I would have saved three years of my life if I had gone to Val in the first place.

Our family fell apart in the most spectacular fashion about 10 years ago, and Val not only helped me pick up the pieces back then, but has been there for me ever since as unexpected repercussions pop up. She is compassionate, wise, and listens. She quickly grasps complex situations, not only the facts but the emotions involved, and then suggests a way through it, and helps to make it happen. What really stands out is the compassion and respect that she extends to all parties involved. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. Period.

If there was an excellent option I would have picked that! Val and the team at Hemminger Law saw me through years of contentious & protracted family litigation.
