Despite some of the negative reviews, my experience with Marie-Hélène has been nothing short of exceptional. From the beginning, she was clear, focused, and incredibly efficient—she doesn’t waste time, and I appreciated her straightforward, goal-oriented approach. She has a sharp understanding of the law and consistently offered advice that was both practical and strategic. Marie-Hélène communicates with clarity and confidence, which immediately put me at ease during what could have been a very stressful time. She took the time to understand my situation, offered honest insight, and always made me feel like my case was a priority. I was referred to her by a colleague, and I’m genuinely grateful I followed through—it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and results-driven mindset truly set her apart. I felt supported and well-informed every step of the way. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Stay away from MH. All of the negative reviews are very accurate. Very, very frustrating experience. One day she tells you something, the day after she tells you the opposite. She makes promises she doesn't follow, she forgets about your file because she's too busy. Oh, and she always have to work on more severe cases than yours (and she's not shy to say it to you). We felt like a number, we felt financially violated, we gave all of our trust to her for a couple of years and all for nothing. She always communicate by e-mail instead of telephone (even for the important stuff), so if you're not good or comfortable with technology or even with just writing your thoughts, forget about it. She can be very rude. She accused us of something we didn't do. I could go on for hours. Overall, please don't do that to yourself! You want someone that you can trust in a stressful time, and not someone that will make you stress 100x more.

You aren't gonna find a better lawyer! First, she knows the law inside and out. I remember her telling me something when I was first consulting lawyers. No other lawyer I spoke with knew about this legal rule. At first I thought she didn't know what she was talking about. Then I was able to talk to some experts in the field who showed me the actual cases. On that of that, Marie-Helene is tenacious. She doesn't give up, nor succumb to bullying antics of her opponent. And yet she is realistic. You don't have to worry about her trying to fight needless just to run up the bill. Marie-Helene broke down my options with an analysis that weighed each of them in a logical way. She is a straight-shooter who also is compassionate. Can't go wrong with her.

I need it to find an experienced lawyer and start my case. I was lost and I didn't know where to start. I was referred to Marie-Helene by a well-known firm in Ottawa. The first day I called MH and left a message, she called me back. From day one, I felt I was in a good hand. She has an amazing listening skills( she never forget and is details oriented) ,understands and is very proactive.She is knowledgeable, very miticulous and professional.she has a BIG heart. She gives it all and beyond. she is honest and generous. She will explain you every steps and what could be the outcome. She will not lie or give you wrong/false expectation. I have been working with MH for over 7 months now and she is focus and dedicated just as the first day. Thank you MH for everything you have done for my girls and I.I'm grateful and blessed to have you by my side. Eventhough this is not an easy process, I'm not worried because I know I have the right person by my side.

I refer to MH as a protective mother-bear. She spent countless hours working on my high conflict case and always made herself available for my calls/emails and mediation. She is fair, reasonable, hardworking and knows the law extremely well.

Law was foreign to me until I got to divorce... MH was referred to me by a friend and was she ever right. Marie-Helene was very knowledgeable. She helped me lots to get my ideas together for an affidavit and she was not affraid in court. My ex kept talking over her but she did not back down. She truly helped me get through the painful process. I already told my friends a bout her and will recommend her.

Very frustrating experience. Inefficient, disorganized and overpriced as a result. Duplicate work, no invoices sent several months, but still charged. Unacceptable.

She is literally brain-damaged. She did not say a single word in the four way meeting and acted more like a secretary writing and agreeing to what the ex lawyer has to say.

My ex is a piece of work! I’m glad that I had a tenacious lawyer like MH to help me along this rough path. She is knowledgeable and truthful. Divorce and separation Is expensive not because of charges that were not deserved but from trying to work out the best and fastest solution for me! I have been divorced for 6 years and separated for 11 but still deLing with a non paying ex... wouldn’t hesitate to contact MH any day! Not sure why the other ratings... divorce isn’t cheap and neither is quality service!!

Most of the negative reviews on here are accurate. Experienced the same issues as what has been described (computer & software illiteracy, communication problems, drawing things out, suspicious charges with time unaccounted, dishonesty). Debating on contacting Law Society.

MHG is not working for her clients best interest. She stalls files. She does not promptly respond to clients email. She make mistakes but does not take responsibility for the errors she makes. She is rude and has no empathy for what her clients go though. She makes promises and commitment she does not keep. She is all about spending her clients money regardless of their financial situation. She should not be a family law lawyer.

MHG is all talk and no action litteraly. My ex has her as lawyer and MHG's philosophy is to stall as long as she possibly can to rack up her bill. She refuses to send requested documentation, she is computer illiterate. She send documents so riddled with errors it took my lawyer hours to correct it all. Even then he couldn't edit the original as the way MHG works. My ex is stalling paying CS and MHG tells her to ignore messages from me. MY ex has done so many crooked things and MHG is aware of them and doesn't care. I think MHG is as crooked as my ex is. MHG got screwed over by her ex-husband, now she does everything in her power to screw over any man that has the unfortunate luck of crossing her path. MHG loves to tell you stuff in a way to try and skirt the justice system, i don't even know how she became a lawyer. I hope one day she has to stand in front of the law society to answer for her actions

I had her for a lengthy time, and in conclusion, I would not recommend her, it would take a long time to get answers, I never got copies of documents that were sent to opposing lawyer, she would ask me what I wanted to do, but offered little advice. She billed me extensive money for little progress. I have been thinking of suing her for negligence. But since my own file is not resolved, I don't have the strength to start this.

Marie-Hélène helped me through a very difficult high conflict divorce - she was caring, responsive, very knowledgeable and was never afraid to tell me something even if its not what I wanted to hear. We worked together for almost two years and I always felt well represented even when we had to make a court appearance. Not many people can say they love their family law lawyer, but I did. She was fantastic!

Marie-Helene handled my separation. She knows the law inside and out. When my ex would threaten me or become unreasonable, a quick phone call to Marie-Helene and I was reassured. She was able to cite cases and precedent demonstrating that it isn't her legal opinion but evidence based in law. I appreciated how she was also able to respect my budget. I felt she didn't draw things out needlessly, directing me to accept somethings but fight for the things that were most important. She also helped me my ex's point of view and didn't villanize the other person (though at times I wanted to!!). Trust me, you won't go wrong with this lawyer.

I had this lawyer as opposing counsel. She has made several errors that have cost both sides tens of thousands of dollars. She keeps making false, unsubstantiated claims that take hundreds of hours to disprove, raking up her client's fees and drawing out the process as long as possible. After 2 years, my ex finally realized she was just there to suck her dry and my ex fired her. I would not recommend this lawyer for anyone wanting an actual resolution of their issues.

I have been dealing with my family law matter since 2009. My ex is a hassle to deal with but using Ms Godbout's services have been a godsend! She takes the worry off your shoulders but keeps your costs at a reasonable level. She is very open and forthright and tells you the truth about your matter and let's you know if you are being smart. I was felt involved in all my major case decisions and was not surprised at any results. Divorce costs money be prepared but be thankful that you have someone like Ms Godbout on your side.

I hired Ms Godbout to assist me in a high conflict divorce and custody situation. She was professional, considerate and effective. She helped me achieve not only the divorce, but equal and fair shared custody of my two daughters. She fought hard for my rights and treated me with respect and dignity. She was always very thorough in her explanations and phone calls, and was meticulous and fair with her billing practices. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to resolve a family law issue. She was nice. But very lengthy drawn out afair and still not resolved. She charged me for things that i question. And would take her a long time for her to get back to me with any questions. She asked what i wanted to do but offeres little asvice. Nice person but thats about it. I would not recommend this lawyer
