I'll sum up my experience with Susan Berry in one statement: You know when it's time to settle, when you hate your lawyer more than your ex. Susan Berry affirmed every negative stereotype of lawyers. She is horrid.

Susan did not represent me, but she did represent my ex, so my experience was indirect. My lawyer said he appreciated that she did not attempt to litigate every matter - a point in her favour. I noticed that my ex, however, didn't seem well-informed on points of process, entitlements, etc. Also, when it came time to review the agreement, she had made errors that would have cost my ex almost a year in support payments had I not pointed them out. My ex paid significantly more in legal fees than I did for another Oakville lawyer and I felt I was nevertheless at an advantage. When it came time to negotiate, she also raised an irrelevant personal point. This seemed poor judgement. There's no advantage gained in antagonizing the opposition. In fact, her behaviour almost tipped me toward taking a more aggressive stance and would have cost her client hundreds of thousands of dollars had I not pitied my ex. Not the worst. Definitely not the best and you'll pay significantly, if not lose.

Although Susan was recommended to me, she was a disaster. In my estimation, she is hostile, rude, unprofessional, and has a huge ego. She appeared to be biased against me being a stay at home parent. Her alpha female persona was overt and disturbing. Some of her comments were so judgemental it was shocking. I finally found new counsel after my ex told me that she had made negative comments to opposing counsel about me. It was my ex who suggested that she was clearly prejudiced against me and to fire her. I should have filed a complaint with the law society but I was busy resolving my separation and missed the timeframe. Stay clear of this lawyer.

From the beginning she was professional and compassionate. Gave an over view of everything that was involved in the separation process, and described the components. She was thorough and very knowledgeable and lead me and my ex-husband through the process very efficiently. She has been great with post separation issues. I highly recommend her.

It was interesting reading the reviews already posted. You would never believe from the good to bad ones that it is the same lawyer. I question the authenticity of the good ones over the bad based on my experience with Susan. My experience with Susan matches all of the details listed in the bad comments exactly. She was very unprofessional at times, condescending, demeaning, passive/aggressive, and forced me to go to settlement in a bullying type manner. I never knew from one interaction to the next what I would encounter with her. It was like Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. I would encourage anyone reading these reviews to look elsewhere, rather than take a chance on Susan. There are good lawyers in and around Oakville, but sadly there are more bad ones. Do a LOT of research and ask as many people as you can before you pick a lawyer and you'll save yourself a lot of time, money and stress.

Susan Berry is extremely knowledgeable and efficient. Divorce is expensive however, if you are looking for a lawyer who is going to use your time to get to the point and produce effective results efficiently this is the lawyer you need. I have full confidence in recommending Susan to anyone going through the process of separation/divorce.

She treated me with compassion, yet extremely professional. I can't say one negative about Susan. I was very lucky to have her as my lawyer. Professional in court, an acceptable settlement was reached, with no extra fuss. My now ex-wife was very hard to get a long with,in the end this was all handled very well. I would recomend Susan to anyone who needs legal representation.

Susan and her team were extremely professional, proficient and compassionate in dealing with this family matter. She had a clear understanding of my case, the best way to handle it legally and an excellent rapport and knowledge of the judges and their wishes. Susan really took into consideration my wishes that the other party be treated with respect and handle things as amicably as possible. Always available to give emotional support and clear guidance. She had a clearly outlined plan and contingency plans. Susan informed me of the cost of going to court. It was always my choice and an attempt was always made to settle without court costs. I feel I got God value for the money and bought peace of mind.

I have to agree. Worst lawyer ever. Did not want to go to Court and also pushed me to settle under duress. Left to live with barely any income, but she didn't care. Just wanted the bill paid.

Susan Berry and her team of associates helped us through some difficult family situations requiring the OCL and a family court judge. She was always proactive in our case, making sure she covered all areas needed as our case also included immigration law as well. She always found time to meet with us and found cost effective ways of managing our case. Would highly recommend her firm to anyone finding themselves in a family situation requiring up to date knowledge at a fair price.

In my case, Susan took over my file from my first lawyer, which had been a very slow and frustrating experience; in over a year and a half I had no progress in negotiating a settlement. Within days of first contacting Susan I met with her, and coming out of our initial meeting I had a thorough understanding of her game plan and expected next steps. Subsequently, within a couple weeks she had successfully negotiated a settlement that resulted in a split of the property that was equitable and I received more than my previous lowest offer!

Completely ineffective, unprepared for the case. Very poor advice given. Unprofessional . Made personal comments about opposing lawyer. Advised me to accept, under duress, an agreement that left me without any means of providing for my own living expenses. Would never recommend this lawyer.

Susan really cared about me and my family. We tried hard to negotiate a deal but when that was not possible we went to court. She knew what she was doing.
