John worked on switching house ownership into my husbands name. We had a lot that needed to be done and he came recommended (poor choice). It took almost two years to get things done. My husband would send in paper work and wouldn’t hear back for weeks. He’d have to initiate contact - which cost us a ton of money. Meeting him at his office in Whitby was disgusting. Dog hair everywhere - dirt all over the floor and didn’t even have our file ready. He was to pay off all of our outstanding debt with the money we received from our bank loan - paid off all but one, but didn’t tell us he didn’t pay it off until my husband emailed him. My husband needs to meet with him for a few more things and after trying to contact him several times, he has not answered. This was my first time dealing with a lawyer, and it has put a negative taste in my mouth. If anyone recommends him to you, run far away.

We met with him Jan. 7. We asked for him to notarize a will and send papers for probate. We gave him all the information. 2 weeks later get an email with engagement letter so nothing done in 2 weeks. 2 weeks later get in the regular mail the probate paper work asking for my contact number and occupation which I had given him one month prior. This could have been asked in a phone call or email instead of by Canada Post which only delays. Also several errors on the probate. He never notarized the will in that month and charged us $1500 for one meeting which he did most of the talking and giggling and sent one package by mail. Is that $1500 worth or work with nothing done? Should have read the reviews as they are very correct. So we have to go to another lawyer after him charging us and never filing the paperwork or notarizing the will.

like others on this page, I support a poor rating for this lawyer. My advice,look elsewhere and do it now. Lots of other lawyers to pick from.

It's too bad I see mean spirited reviews on this website. John is a wonderful lawyer who has an affable personality. John was able to take our file on for free for many months while he helped us with a urgent matter. After he resolved our matter the other side decided to renege on the agreement and the bargain struck. In the end he was able to keep the otherside of the dispute to honour its word and in fact obtain for us damages for the breach of the agreement. Although the dispute was very complicated (enforcing a contract with a government entity) he was able to resolve with negotiation and when the time was appropriate, use of the courts. It's like they say, patience is a virtue.

Unfortunately, Mr. Annen completely missed the deadline for my case. Throughout the whole process, I was consistently having to follow-up with him only to find that nothing had been done on his end. Not only was he misinformed on submission deadlines, he seemed to have no care for quality of work. He was disorganized and had repeatedly cancelled scheduled meetings, generally 20 minutes before the scheduled time and once while I was waiting in the waiting room. He was aware of his lack of professionalism and misconduct and just brushed it off as though it meant nothing. To be treated this way by a professional hired to represent my interests is very disheartening and disappointing.

I recommend anyone to deal with him. Specifically if you have lack of English or lack of legal knowledge. He will take him time to understand you and represent you very well in the Courts.

Mr. Annen did not meet one deadline within the court system. Whenever we received a bill it was inaccurate this his over billing us and ignoring the agreement in which we signed with him. The papers filed through the courts were disorganized, missing original documents we have provided him, and ALWAYS late! And when he fired him, he held onto our files, despite the fact that our bill was paid in full. And he lost files we had provided and he held back filed altogether. Avoid this lawyer at all cost.

We experienced much the same problems as others have stated here. He screwed up our two cases and appeared to be helping the other side. We fired him and filed an LSUC complaint in September 2014. We also started 2 Lawyers Bill Assessments.Nothing is settled yet and this Lawyer continues to abuse the System! BEWARE of this Man, he has no conscience.

Cannot follow instructions, even the opposing lawyers remarked on his poor performance. He took on our simple case and was given the Annotated Ontario Building Code Act and provided with the true facts and statues, but refused to plead our case in manner, expected of a professional. It appeared he was working for the other side, assisting them in increasing billable hours. Our simple case that should never have been before the courts due to the greedy lawyers and deep municipal pockets is still going on after 4 years. The lawyers work together against their clients to increase billable hours, and mislead the courts of the true facts. We filed a complaint with the Law Society March 2015 and it appears they turn a blind eye to malpractice and neglect conduct of the members when the case is still before the courts. Write to LSUC to voice your concerns. We will be filing a claim for breach of contract after Court File 269/12 & 203/13 cases are completed in court. STOP THE ABUSE

Disorganized. Procrastinator. Forgetful. Non productive. He had our file for over a year and did nothing but increase his billing on phone calls and emails with the defendants, actions that produced zero results in moving our case forward whatsoever.

This lawyer represented the other party. But my experience was horrible! He didn't have any information on him as approached me in the court house asking me to pay him 50$ for the other party when it was not me who was owing. He was very rude. When in court, he did not know how to speak properly and his knowledge was pretty much non exsistant. He also has 2 months to provide documents to the courts and he did not hand them in until the day of court (it was supposed to be done before that date) he also didn't even show up at court he had the party he was representing do it himself. Very bad experience and I woul suggest no one waste their time!
