While the initial negotiation went ok, this guy drags on cases and it's clear he only cares about the money. He is late to court, forgets everything and will not file anything for you unless you prompt him and remind him repeatedly. I signed up for a half-day mediation and he pushed us to do a full day and almost two and it cost double what I was quoted by his office. You have a legal question and want to get him on the phone? Then you see every conversation on the bill which you get extremely irregularly. Additionally, he is rude, cuts off clients and other attorneys alike and is generally unpleasant and unprofessional to work with. Beware, don't retain his services.

Late for court, was always unprepared but billed me for prep on the subjects he stumbled over in court. Gouging on billing over charges for everything. Complete incompetence. No communication, did not copy me on motions and responses from other counsel. Do yourself a favor and don't even think of hiring this guy or his staff.

The only reason my litigated divorce came to an end was because I was the bull dog and negotiated my own settlement. Seven years later, I find out that my wife is still on the title for my house when I went to refinance and she has an outstanding judgment dated five years after our divorce. Never returned my calls. Brian did nothing for me. Keep looking.

Attempted mediation with Brian. It was confusing and unproductive. He would not return calls or reply to emails requesting things he promised and requesting clarification on what he was doing. He promised reports to us which were never done. I would strongly recommend finding another attorney for mediation.

I tried to give Brian Shoemaker the benefit of the doubt and I’m sorry that I did. His work proved to be a miserable failure and after the many small mistakes that he made along the way, he really outdid himself in the end. Four years after my divorce, it was discovered that the final decree (which addressed the division of property) was never filed with the court, despite my being told by Brain Shoemaker that everything in my case had been resolved. Nine months after that discovery, I am still unable to refinance my house as I have nothing to show my mortgage company to prove I am the sole owner of my home. I’m representing myself now, no thanks to Brian Shoemaker, to resolve the problem. What really bugs me is his unwillingness to even answer my question about what happened and his refusal to acknowledge any personal responsibility in the matter. He is highly unethical and how he has managed to continue a law practice for some twenty years with such poor quality work is beyond me.

The only advice I can give is find another attorney. He tries to sell you on the idea of collaborative divorce. Don't be fooled, he will drag out the process until you're out of money.

Mr. Shoemaker was not honest about his understanding of the law nor did he understand the rules of my case. I paid over $20,000, he nearly cost me my freedom and I had to hire another attorney to fix his mistakes. I highly recommend you find another attorney.

Mr. Shoemaker is unprofessional and unethical. He and his paralegal have no idea how to even spell correctly and their writings are often childish and unnecessarily hateful; appearing as if bullies still in high school. They continually attempt to promote hostility between divorcing parties where none is needed. They perpetuate the lies of their clients instead of providing them with the real legal counsel that they so badly need. Please, do yourself a favor find someone else to help you with your case! There are many professional, ethical lawyers in Albuquerque. Read the reviews before you hire someone so that you don't waste so much of your hard earned money. You do not always get what you pay for and Mr. Shoemaker is a very good example of that. Also note that Mr. Shoemaker's review rating among his pears is a 2.9! That pretty much says it all and confirms my opinion of he and his law firm.
