Michael helped me out with a rather niche and stressful legal issue, and his assistance made a world of difference for me. Not only did he provide very comprehensive and on-point legal advice, he was also very attuned to the human dimension to legal disputes, which made me feel very supported. Not only are his communications prompt, they are also rich with the sort of detailed information that you want from your lawyer, and he also goes above and beyond by pointing out issues that I did not think to ask about. Overall 5/5, would certainly recommend.

Michael Butterfield and his assistant Jayne at Butterfield Law were incredible the entire process as they handled my divorce case. They were such a pleasure to have helping me through this stressful time of transition and made every step easy from start to finish. The communication they gave me through each process was amazing as I always felt well informed. As I had some irregular events that occurred throughout my divorce process in the courts (no fault of the firm) Michael’s assistant Jayne went above and beyond helping get everything sorted out for me and eased my mind as she promptly was able to get the issue resolved.

I highly recommend Michael and Jane. They are a great team. They are very professional and have a lot of expertise. They are very good communicators. I never felt awkward asking questions. I recently consulted with Michael over a family matter concerning my now adult daughter. The history of the legal proceedings is long and unpleasant. Michael was very understanding, straightforward and kind in his approach and his advice. I felt listened to and really heard by Michael. He did not rush me, but encouraged me to focus and not get bogged down in the emotional (which I tend to do). What felt like an overwhelming issue now feels manageable with Michael on my side. I only wish I had consulted him years ago as I know he would have saved a lot of time and discomfort. His assistant Jayne is fantastic and the two of them work together as a real team. I highly recommend Michael.

Micheal worked with me to resolve a number of legal issues over the past year. Either he or his wonderful wife Jayne got back to me immediately - I never felt I had to compete with other clients or that my concerns were not top priority. Jayne is so kind and welcoming, and does a great job of making you feel at ease in their office. Recently Michael helped resolve an issue with obtaining a passport for my daughter. He was swift in drafting a letter, submitting it, following up with the government agent on my behalf, and resolved the issue promptly. I was incredibly impressed with his timely work. Mr Butterfield was good but his assistant Jane was 5 star. She was my main contact and was very helpful and caring. Mr Buttterfield was a bit hard to reach. It seemed he was not in the office often Jane kept on top of everything so it wasn't a real problem. He did a good job and listened to me which did not happen with my other lawyer.

I hired Micheal to help me with some some legal issues in a hotly contested child support situation and would like to share my experience with his firm. First and foremost, Michael listened. He gathered the information relevant to the situation, asked good questions and made suggestions on how to proceed. What I received was a course of action which was best suited to my situation, not some cookie cutter response. Michael is knowledgeable of the law and the courts here in Victoria specifically, articulate on courses and potential outcomes, and finally staunchly ethical. His billing was very fair, and I really felt I had someone I could trust and rely on in my corner which is a huge stress relief in these types of situations. I would highly suggest Michael to others who are looking for an expert you can trust in these types of matters.

I would not recommend hiring Mr. Butterfield to anyone. He did not produce ANY results that he indicated he's capable of, when I interviewed him. His communication was poor. Simply put, he's not worth the money he's charging.

I was happy with michaels work on my file. I had a collaborative separation and I would def say this is his specialty. It was pricier than I thought but I honestly didn't mind paying it because he worked hard to get me the things I needed from the divorce. I also appreciated that he took into account that I didn't want any unnecessary hard feelings as that would impact my kids. I did everything to protect them from this and he really took that into account while balancing interests.

I just today finished dealing with a custody change for my daughter. Mr. Butterfield dealt with it fairly and quickly and we managed to avoid court. I was most impressed how he dealt with my daughters father who has a volatile temper. He managed to keep him calm and word things in a way so that he did did not feel offended. Very impressive communication skills. Got the job done quickly and with the least amount of drama possible. This makes it beneficial for everyone including the child.

My ex was really hard to deal with. I tried to work things out with her without us having lawyer. I found out she had a lawyer all the time. When I went to Butterfield I was screwed. It took about 6 months to get things right. he worked really hard and ACTUALY listened to me.

Michael Butterfield was our mediator. He was really good. We had a marriage agreement which should have made things simple but our assets has lost money and the agreement no longer worked. Michael was very patient and guided us to what was important. He also gave us the time to think about things and did not try and rush us. He let us chart our own course. I hired Michael twice. One for a family matter and once for a lease agreement. My ex wanted to change our shared custody agreement. She and her lawyer were really aggressive and threatening. Michael was able to develop a plan which stopped the aggression and threats. Michael has a great deal of knowledge and was able to sort out my situation quickly. I also used him for a residential lease. In both cases, Michael was excellent.
