Very disappointing experience. He did not seem to pay attention to important details. It is questionable how balanced the process really was. No checks and balances on false information used by the lawyers involved. Time to retire?...probably

Read the comments. This lawyer is a chauvinist of the worst magnitude. My ex lied in his statements, showed documents from our marriage that had no business being included and Epstein would not look at my proof but accepted the ex's claims without proof. Sold our house before any support was determined so I could not purchase, threatened me with arbitration if I didn't agree to the settlement and sided with my ex on everything even tho he cheated on me and had planned everything for years(hence the documents saved from our marriage). So many things wrong with his mediation. In the end, new lawyer, way better settlement and less legal fees. If you're a woman looking to spend less than $100000 go elsewhere

My lawyer, a respected senior lawyer, said he will never use Phillip Epstein again. My ex's documents although sworn were full of lies. We had the documentation to prove this but Mr Epstein refused to consider details; instead I was told I didn't understand, bullied and each time I tried to respond, threatened with the cost of arbitration. My ex is telling people Mr Epstein came into his room apologizing that this was taking longer because I didn't understand the process. Mr Epstein would not present my offer which represented the truth and facts my lawyer and I could prove. He did represent my ex's offer, positioning it to look bigger than it was, since half of it was legally due to me and not incremental as needed for equalization.Mr Epstein refused to allow me to counter with an offer. We only had one offer from me and a counter offer from my husband. Mr lawyer did not recommend going to arbitration because of having to use Mr Epstein. My lawyer says this had been "grossly unfair".

Never use him for mediation or arbitration. Never completed or followed through on anything. Not a single thing was resolved but incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars of lawyers fees and in the end only the children suffered in many ways.

Phil "gets it done". His hourly rate may be high but he is great value. He is pragmatic and offers excellent advice based on his very long career as a family lawyer. I spent less than a third of what my ex spent on legal bills as she wasted time and delayed at every opportunity. Phil was a great counsellor through this very stressful time in my life and I would recommend him to anyone. One valuable piece of advice Phil gave me was the following: "Make sure your partner engages a good senior lawyer because senior lawyers get divorce cases settled and avoid going to court". Hiring a junior lawyer with a lower billing rate may seem like a tempting option, but there is a much greater chance you will end up in court where everyone becomes a loser.

Don't use him for mediation. Was horrible. Totally out of touch with reality. Think it's time for him to retire

I am a lawyer myself and have been over 30 years. Phil is the best. He has encyclopedic knowledge, a quick mind and what ever the problem is he has been there before. Absolutely the best of the best. I have to assume the negative rating is from someone who was opposite Phil or who didn't understand. Phil is who other lawyers from across Canada look to for guidance and inspiration. Thanks Phil!
