At the start of the engagement I advised Mr. Kaplan that I did not want to spend very much because my total risk in the dispute was manageable. The idea was to make the problem go away. Without any advance notice as to the scope of work he would perform, he billed me for $8,500 to generate a letter. Now, I am actually in a worse position than I was before I retained his services.
