Please RUN from this attorney. I wish I had read these reviews that date all the way back to 2009! Everyone is right: she doesn’t care about her clients and refuses to answer or return phone calls or emails for MONTHS at a time. You are better off with a public defender. At least they ignore you and plead your case out instead of fighting for you on the State’s dime instead of yours!

I worked with Laurie in 2014 and she was nothing short of wonderful. She helped me with so much and I am grateful for her ability to see the truth in the situation. I am sad to see these other reviews for her. She was wonderful with my son and helped us shed light on issues. I am grateful for her.

It is amazing to me, reading the reviews on Ms. Nield, that for the past 9 years (at least) she has had nothing but TERRIBLE reviews and she is still being allowed to "represent" children. She is a poor excuse for a GAL. She has never even seen any interaction by my family with the child. She takes the word of the child's mother (who lies repeatedly, both in court and out), without checking the facts. Ms. Nield is definitely biased. She seems to function not as a GAL, but as a lawyer for the opposing side. I feel sorry for anyone who is assigned Ms. Nield as a GAL.

She served as GAL and was admittedly biased, stating she could not give a fair opinion yet wanted to continue when the case transferred courts. She would not return calls, falsified reports, only came to the house once briefly, said she would do things that she did not, and showed favoritism towards the other party. It seems as if she thought she knew more than LCSWs and does not have the best interest of children at heart. Having several kids of her own it is a shame that she does not put more effort into her responsibilities as a GAL, its just a paycheck. I honestly do not know how she sleeps at night. Terrible!!!

She is terrible. Doesn't return phone calls or emails-she talked to us 1 time in the year and a half our case was dragged out. She lied in court and on her recommendation to the judge. She was never interested in what was going on and definitely did not care about what was in the best interest of the child. I am sorry any court still uses her as an adlitum-she should not represent any child. If she is appointed as your child's adlitum, do yourself a favor and request a new one.

She is horrible. She was appointed GAL in my sons case. never answered calls over a 6 month time frame. finally called the day before court and she asked that i bring my child to her office at 9am 2 hours before the court date. it was continued and the date changed by her without letting me know the date. she is a disaster. poor communication and does not investigate anything.

I have never seen a Lawyer like this. She do not answer telephone calls, nor return the 50+ messages left. Mrs. Nield set up a home visit. for 4Pm, never showed up/ or call to say she couldn't make it. I've been to her office over 20 times, paid for parking, waited upward to 1 hour never showed up not once. I had to go to the court house before 5Pm and she was sitting in the court talking. The court was over a deputy came to me , I asked to see her , she told the deputy to tell me to make a appointment which I have over 50 times that I have documented all calls on my cell. I then asked if the deputy can give her my paper work which included my cell number to call me. Mrs. Nield never talked to my Grandson, nor have she gotten back to me about my new court date. She need to be reprimanded by the VBA. I don't think that she is a bad person, she just don't have the best interest of the Children at heart.

I am an attorney representing a parent of a child in which she was Guardian. Ms. Nield is never available. She does not return phone calls. I am sure she only goes into office a couple times a week. It is impossible to get ahold of her. In my experience, she is the worst attorney for communication in Hampton Roads. I think the Judges in Portsmouth Juvenile Court should not appoint her and do children a disservice when they do. I actually won my case so this is not a revenge post. She is just above the malpractice line in my opinion. If she didn't want to practice law, she should not make the children or her clients suffer for her lack of ambition and work ethic.

She was assigned as the GAL for a foster child in our home. I called her over a dozen times and she never returned the call. She never did the required home visit. She's paid a lot of money to do this job and she doesn't do it. Interesting that she can write up what our home is like and submit it to the court when she never met us or looked to see if the child was doing well. I reported her to the court system as well. I don't recommend anyone using her as a private attorney.

She didn't do any background checks on either sides. My paperwork was still in the envelope sitting on her desk 2 days before court. I called her office over 25 times without her ever returning any of them. Missed 5 scheduled phone interviews with me. Lied on her report and in court. Never submitted letters from neighbors or the school. She never talked to the children on their own. She believed everything from one side and never investigated to find out what the truth was. She doesn't have the best interest of the children at all. Very unprofessional. I would not let her have any legal part of a child custody case. This is how children end up damaged. Something should be done about all the lies told. I thought being a lawyer was to uphold the law and the truth, not destroying homes and lives.

Ms Nields NEVER returned any phone calls. She did not do any background check of either party. She did not even do a phone interview as required. She did not do a home visit where the children resided at the time and lied in her report. She got the name wrong of the mother's boyfriend in her report and is EXTREMELY BIASED!! She most definitely does not have the best interest in the children's well being and is being reported to the Virginia State Bar. Please be very weary if the judge has appointed her as your GAL. She is a liar and eminently two faced.

Every time I try to contact this lawyer she never get back to me in a timely matter. I can wait several months before hearing from her. she is the worst gal I have ever dealt with.

She is killing my case right now. Ive had sole custody since 2009 and my non custodial parent violates visitation. She will not answer any calls and then tells the court she dosen't have my #. IVE CALLED HER OFFICE OVER 19 TIMES. If she ends up being your GAL for the Love of your Chrildren, Get another GAL!!

If this lawyer is appointed as the G.A.L. to your case you have already lost. The second she is appointed write to the judge and get her removed. Laurie Nield cares nothing for the children she represents nor the families being torn apart. If you are considering hiring her you may just as well take your money and flush it down the toilet because that is what is about to happen to any case in which this lawyer is involved with no matter the capcity. Protect your children and your family from Laurie Nield, do not allow her to be involved with your custody or visitation case.

She was great when she came to visit my kids. She made them feel comfortable around her when they were confused about everything turning upside down in their lives. She made sure when she returned my calls she had plenty of time to discuss any problems I was concerned with.

This attorney is one sided. She listens to what the first parent has to say then does not get any evidence to prove the statements are true or false. She never returns calls or emails. She simply does not care for the children involved in the case but rather what is going to be the easiest way out for her. I would never recommend this attorney to anyone or suggest that if she is appointed GAL for your children to refuse and ask for another.

This GAL should be banned. She does not answer her phone or returns calls. When she was assigned to represent my children, she completely lied in her report and made it read as if she had visited them on several occasions, when in fact she spent about 1 hour total talking to all parties concerned, including the children during a 5 month period. 45 minutes of that time was the day before court, but her report read as if she had visited with the children on several occasions. She should not be an attorney, but most importantly, she should not have any involvement with being a GAL and influence on what is in the best interest of any children.

I read a GAL report and she was accurate and stuck to the facts. There was 1 error in her report but that was because of hearsay and no evidence was given to her. Which I am sure she will correct once she does have the evidence.

Have your lawyer refuse appointment of this GAL. She will lie and leave important info out of her report. She does not return calls and is very absent minded. Makes her reports read in a way to please what the system wants and not what is best. Will not change her decision even after obtaining new info and knowing what is best goes against her original report. This is to save face with the judge in hopes of getting future appointments. She will not have the childs best interest at heart and will not do her job. It is very disturbing how she does not care about the affects and lifetime of damages she creates whith her lies and lack of investigations. Help the children by having her removed as a GAL. Maybe someday she will have to face a bad GAL.

Being an attorney does not seem to be her priority. She definately has a problem returning phone calls. Also, an issue that we found out should have only taken 2 to 3 weeks ended up taking 6 months. It was completed because we called the courts to see what the status was since Mrs. Nield would not answer our calls. The courts had never even received the paperwork that was supposedly submitted by Mrs. Nield. If she had stayed on top of her pending case this wouldn't have happened.

A robot to the system. Does not do her job. I pray she is never assigned to represent a child ever again. She does not care about what is best for a child, only what she thinks the judge wants to hear. Lies in court and on reports.
