I have retained Paul when my ex filed for a divorce. He costs about double than average experienced lawyer in Toronto, so you'd think you get what you paid for, and to extent it is correct - I would give him 10 out of 100 for his knowledge of law or his honesty. However, despite his 40+ years experience, he naïvely thinks that every other lawyer is as honest as him. If on the other end is lawyer with same qualities, you made the right choice. But if on the other end is shady lawyer who will be lying left and right, like it was in my case, Paul unfortunately accepts whatever lie the other side puts in affidavit, as in his opinion lawyer can't lie, since he doesn't lie himself (and it is good quality for human being and for a lawyer, but not for you). Paul, I'd tell this personally to you, if I could provide my feedback without your hourly rate.

He knows about family law but will go after the last dollar of your money and will make your case more difficult to keep receiving money. Stay away

Paul is a 5 star lawyer. He knows the law very well and has been practicing for over 40 years. He is straight forward and to the point. Extremely respected by Judges andnither kegal practitioners. I fired my previous lawyer after paying him $50K. If I had used Paul from the start i would have mitigated my costs. I would highly recommend Paul.

Any divorce is already hard, but my is the most difficult. It lasts four years since my ex-wife and her lawyer each time come up with all new, not fair desires.
Only because of the great experience and knowledge of Paul Slan my ex wife always lose and paying me back even the cost.
I want to thank all the staff of Gelman & Associates and especially Paul Slan for their professionalism, understanding and honesty.

Such a slime ball from a slimy firm. Revenue first, followed by reputation, clients are not even second. Told me he wasn't available for a court date, but miraculously he was two days before and tried to hold me for ransom.

I hired Paul Slan to help me with my divorce proceedings. Paul dealt with the issues of custody, child and spousal support and division of our property. Paul was easy to speak with and understood how emotional the entire process was. He always took the time to listen to me. He provided excellent representation for me. I was very happy with the outcome of my case and would recommend him strongly to anybody going through a separation or divorce. His fees were very reasonable, especially based upon his man years’ of experience.

He just wants your money not help you solve your case. I had to do a lot of the work & he didn't help me with what I wanted in my case like he said he would do.He quite after the trial conference & finally sent me a large invoice that did not benefit me at all.

I also did most of the work and he was unprepared for meetings when we met. He took notes with a pen, then charged twice as he had his assistant input his notes into the computer. I was able to get more done (child support) on my own...I felt he did not advocate for me. At first I received vague bills until I asked for the bill to be itemized.

Terrible. I had a complicated case. I wrote out all the affidavit material myself (up to 50 pages) and he said he would edit it and shrink it with better legal jargon. When I went to sign it he hadn't changed a thing. There were still notes from me to him inside the document that he didn't even delete with the computer. Then he expected me to sign it and pay him over $30 000 for the whole experience. I wrote the entire document. He only got it transferred onto the proper legal sheets of paper, that's all. When I tried to switch lawyers he wouldn't give back my file / other legal documents until I paid him in full, even for the work he DID NOT DO -- I did all the work myself. He couldn't even remember the names of my kids in court. Pathetic. Run the other way. Money lover.

Mr. Slan knows the family law very well and went to 3 divorces himself. He is not any longer as he used to be. All what he cares now is how to take money from his clients. I think it is time to be retired to keep his good name and image as used to be before. Every year his reputation is getting worse. I really will not recommend him to anyone anymore. Sorry friends !
