I had a very poor experience with Jaret Moldaver. Seven months into working with him and this firm I expressed concerns due to court proceedings that I later found out were not advantageous.
As a single mom this saw me spend tens of thousands of dollars only to end up where I started and very far from any solution.
When I requested a call to address my concerns, he was rude, defensive and railroaded me. He then demanded that I remove him from my case.
I was shocked by this behaviour.
It is certainly not what would be expected from a lawyer with professional integrity.
Since this horrible experience I've interviewed many lawyers. I wish I had of done this from the beginning. If you are looking for a family law lawyer, do your due diligence and find out how they are viewed by their peers. It will go a long way to avoid extra stress and wasting your hard earned money.
I would not recommend.

The worst lawyer ever! DO NOT GO TO HIM! Charges a fortune and makes up stuff just to win. Horrible person and human being. He should go to HELL as he won't be going where the LORD takes him. Only the devil wants bad people like that.

He dragged out my divorce and it never seemed to end. At the end of one of our meetings before he asked for more retainer he told me I'm now part of the 100,000.00 club and gave me a coffee mug he had made for those clients that made it to this "prestigious club" What a slap in the face. When I first met Jaret, I was going through a very long and difficult separation/divorce with someone who had mental health issues but refused to be diagnosed. It was pushing me past my limits and after two lawyers who weren't helping at all, I got Jaret's name from a friend. Jaret is a tough cookie, I will admit that we butted heads like nobody's business but what I saw in him was someone who needed me to look for what was fair for everyone and to stop panicking. He put the brakes on for me, he (basically) held my hand and he walked me through one of the toughest moments of my life. He gave me MILLION DOLLAR ADVICE and I made the commitment to listen and let this expert take the lead. I'm so happy I did. He taught me a lot. Jaret also has a psychology background which helps beyond words. I wish every single person in this divorce-court world had a background in psychology. They shouldn't be allowed to represent the ins and outs of families or family law without one.

Thanks to Jaret, I finally ended a 12 year legal battle. I decided to switched to Jaret after having no progress with my previous counsel. I can only say I love this man. I’ve been in a divorce battle for about three years now. I have several children and my case deals with a foreign ex. Jaret has come through for me from day one. Jaret in my eyes is the top Canadian family law lawyer. Although I feel as though we are just scraping the surface in my divorce, Jaret has come through on every single level. It is difficult to determine the quality and ability of a lawyer prior to a trial scenario. The process of motions, examinations, settlement conferences, pre trial ect.. are dictated by the process of the family law act. Although Jaret was very effective during this process I did not get a real understanding of his abilities until the trial came. During the trial Jaret's strengths as lawyer became very evident. It appeared as though he was the lead lawyer in the court room and was able to discuss points of law with the judge at her level. The final determination was 100% in my favour and I would recomend Jaret to anyone seeking legal counsel.

This man has one interest, padding his pockets. He was opposing counsel and did everything in his power to avoid reasonable conduct only to draw things out. He is utterly rude and unprofessional in his communication. Survey his fellow colleagues, he is described as being the bottom feeder of family law.

I have had the worst experience ever with Jaret. I can say without a shadow of a doubt the only thing that this person cares about is getting paid. He is expensive, without providing any real results. He is quick to pass blame and late on all deadlines. Find a lawyer that cares, he certainly isn't one of them.

I have read some of the negative comments about Jaret. The person who heard that Jaret is "nasty and ruthless" was misinformed. Jaret is conciliatory when the case calls for it and appropriately aggressive when there is no cooperation or obstruction from the other side. Jaret is sympathetic, child focussed and only interested in achieving the most fair result. His intellect is matched by his well thought out strategies. Jaret works expeditiously and efficiently and seems respected by other senior lawyers and Judges. I strongly recommend Jaret for all family law matters.

Jaret Moldaver has been my lawyer since 2012, assisting me in a now 10 year battle with my ex who always threatened that he would never give up the fight. Two previous lawyers led me to the brink of financial ruin. Although my situation continues to be dire, Jaret has proved to be very efficient, and a creative thinker. He knows how to cut to the chase when dealing with high conflict matters. My 8.5 day trial was handled in a spectacular manner and he achieved a very successful outcome. Unfortunately, due to the legal system deficiencies this victory remains a hollow one in my circumstances and I suffered serious post-traumatic depression. I never imagined that anyone could so accurately understand my interests and concerns, and so effectively communicate my sentiment before a judge, but he did so better than I had imagined.
Jaret Moldaver is an extraordinary lawyer who was surgical in cutting through the noise that couples with conflicting interests create for one another. Jarrett was exceedingly efficient and effective in defending my rights as a parent, always with my daughter's best interest in mind AND at heart.
My matter lasted over 3 years in the ‘system’. Jaret was not the first lawyer to represent me, but within a few months of taking on my case, he and his outstanding team of professionals closed the matter, allowing me to resume my life and my outstanding relationship with my daughter.
THe three of us (my ex included!)now share a healthy relationship, void of (most) conflict. We’ve never functioned so well together.

My ex and I has a separation agreement and then he hired this lawyer. In our agreement I had to pay my ex $250,000 and I was cool with that. Moldaver told his client he could get him $400,000. After each of us, my ex and I spent over a $100,000 in legal fees, my ex walks out with under $140,000 less the legal fees. He walks out with what $27,000? Stunned that this still happens. Who's the winner here?

This is a lawyer who does not evaluate and advise the client of the risks associated with ongoing matrimonial proceedings. It is all about going to motion after motion and preparing for trial until all monies are exhausted. In conclusion, both parties are financially in the red. Sad state of affairs as no one wins, except the lawyer. Do not recommend this lawyer.

I'm surprised by some of the comments as i would highly recommend him. Why are people blaming a lawyer when we choose to use one because we can't make an agreement on our own? I've never had an issue with him responding to a call or email. He cuts to the chase - maybe some don't like that - he knows the law and sets realistic expectaions dealing with what really matters. Some may not like this either but it is what it is. He keeps costs down by using his very competent assistants as much as possible so doesn't waste your time or money. Unfortunately the process is slow and that is the issue not this lawyer. If you don't want to spend money work it out or go to mediation. If you have to go to court you want him representing you.

Since it is always a bad idea for a lawyer to self represent, (I myself am a lawyer of 29 years at the bar, practicing exclusively in the area family law in Oakville), after interviewing a number of lawyers that I either knew directly or by reputation I chose to retain Jaret Moldaver. He has in every respect unequivocally demonstrated integrity, honesty, diligence and the highest level of skill in representing me. His courtroom presence is powerful, his argument always cogent and incisive, his counsel always balanced and well thought-out. He is an excellent choice if you need top-flight representation. Ignore the bad reviews of him on this website. They can't be true. He's simply not like that.

Jaret has done a good job of keeping my case on track. His support staff are really bery reliable. I get quick respones by phone or email. Its been a frustrating process, slow, and unpredictable. My ex wanted to settle things by way of mediation and Moldaver talked me out of it and kept things moving through the court system instead. By the end of it, we settled anyway and the amount of money left to settle with was actually less than the legal bills I paid to him so there was only one real winner and it wasn't me. Also, he seemed to rely heavily on his assistants to write legal documents so he did't know my case that well, and he is very slow to respond, doesn't return calls. Knowledge of the law seems good.

I've been pretty happy with Jaret's work. It is the nature of the system and my ex are fraught with delays. I've found his expectation setting to be realistic and conservative. He has tried to control my costs (in a legal system where there is little control). Legal battles are expensive, slow and frustrating. However, the price of freedom, regainging my children and happiness: Priceless! If you are looking for a competant lawyer, who can set realistic expectations - then he is a good choice. I have read the critism of others before me - I was surprised by it. My experience has been quite different than the other writers. Comparing my legal experience with Jaret to the several other friends and co-workers I know: I have ended up much better off. Several of these individuals have now moved their files to him also since - and their cases are progressing again.

He knows the law just like any family law lawyer. His rate isn't insane like some of these guys but also isn't great. He will drag out your case just like they all do. I think all the 5 out of 5 ratings are probably from the wives and all the bad ratings are from the husbands. Guys, settlment is your only option as your case moves forward. Every dime that you both spend on a lawyer is a dime that isn't available on a settlement, it is a vicious circle ask anyone who has been through it. Gentlemen if the woman is scorn and wants you dead or broke or both your best option is to find a lawyer that can delay your case for about a year as cheaply as possible (say $20,000 in legals) then try and settle once she is in a better frame of mind. It could take two years of delays to get her in this position but remember every dime spent will have you feeling like you want to subtract it from the settlement figure in your head. So it's best if you can keep the bill as low as possible at the start.
