I had a problem with some construction I had done that was not built according to code or manufacturer's specifications. I did the research myself on different cases and the Ohio laws governing this case and presented them to this lawyer when we met. He reviewed everything I had including pictures, dates and conversations. He said it was obvious my position was correct and that treble damages were warranted. He received my initial fee and took the case. He didn't call me to keep me informed of the status, I had to call him. I had an expert witness who was willing to testify but wasn't available when the trial was ready (I feel because the lawyer didn't communicate properly). As the trial approached, he said that treble damages weren't warranted although Ohio law says they are. He tried to have me take a reduce settlement. I refused. When the plaintif increased a settlement the day of trial, he said take it because I was wasting his time. I was awarded what small claims would have.
