DO NOT GIVE 5K RETAINER! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A WOMAN!
This man screwed me over bad. I I should be living a decent quality of life, as my ex instead I'm in debt with a bleak financial future.
Our case should have been quick & easy. He made it anything but that! As a matter of fact I swear he was working more for my ex than he was me.
He was far more detrimental & stressful to my life than my ex!
His communication skills are non-existent & he's a lazy arrogant misogynist. Extremely rude & impatient, does not explain anything except what legwork YOU should do that he should be doing. Many times I cried out of fear & frustration for my future. I also ended up having to research the law myself because he was not providing proper guidance or assistance. He was always asking for more $$ despite not giving proper documentation & receipts for what has been done.
What should have taken 1 yr tops ended up taking 7!! I have proof of his incompetence. LADIES PLEASE DO NOT RETAIN THIS LAWYE

Complaint LSO
Arnold Schwartz a tenure lawyer I thought was a man with a stellar reputation in the Durham legal community. I was quite proud to have retained him for my lawyer. Then everything changed dramatically when we went in front of the court and opposing counsel (who passed the bar in 2017). What we discussed between client and counsel changed. I felt as though I was paying for the respondent to have two counsel. Mr. Schwarz did a complete 360 to what we discussed. Everything he did was for the benefit of opposing counsel, the respondent. He did not support me, he did not fight for me, he didn’t care, he did not try or put forth any effort, he threw me under the bus. I took him off record immediately, the next day. He ruined my case, now I am left picking up the pieces (Complaint to Law Society of Ontario not about this experience I shared, but of the experience I did not share)

Awful experience. Arrogant, condescending man who after happily taking my money acted as if I should know the law already even though that is what I paid him for. The bad reputation lawyers have is because of guys like this. You'll be better taken care of by legal aid.
