Typical of a large group of female lawyers in Charleston --- she and they will get together and decide how you and others should be treated and have a silent deal worked out long before court and you will never know how badly you were sold out.

Terrible attorney. If I would have listened to her I would have only seen my kids every other weekend AND would have had to taken out $75,000 loan to give her half of my 401k retirement after the market crash. Instead, I demanded I parent my kids half the time and talked to another attorney who said the fair way of splitting retirement after crash was just to give ex ophalf of all shares. Julia’s response, “They won’t go for that.” Well, they did, and I parented my kids half the time. Pathetic, pathetic, joke of an attorney. It’s tough enough to go through a divorce, but when you have to second guess everything your attorney says and does it’s really bad.

This attorney is a joke! My attorney has destroyed her.. not once but twice !! She has no guts in the court room ... talks a big game and tells her clients what they want to hear... simply to get their retainer money...but time for court... she is a cowered!! There is a joke around Charleston and the surrounding area with other domestic lawyers .. they call Julia "the crier" because she gets in the court room where she is terrible and starts crying to the judge!! Most attorneys in the area will tell you if the opposing lawyer Julia... that is the best thing you having going for you!! She is a joke !! Other attorneys have no respect for her!! Avoid her!

Worst attorney from here to East Tennessee. Her paralegal is just as bad. The paralegal sits and gossips about other cases violating privacy laws. Julia is never in contact with her clients, is easily agitated, can't even ask appropriate questions to witnesses on the stand. She has told several people I know (clients of hers) to "shut up" and secretly refers to them as "idiots" behind closed doors. She needs her license revoked along with Chris White, they're both a huge disgrace to this area and it's no wonder this town is made fun of and claimed to "get away with murder" because that's exactly what goes on around here. Drugs and money talk, and honesty never sees the light of day in the court room! Would give a ZERO if possible. Save your money and your time, find another attorney!!!

She never read my files regarding my minor children and the case for their visitation and custody matters with an abusive stepmother, (drug my son by his feet across the floor, forced him to attend Catholic school even though he wasn't raise Catholic, name calling "lazy bums")...Ms. Shalhoup is incompetent, shows up late at court then hobnobs in the hall with other lawyers and bills you for such treatment. DON NOT USE HER, NO AFTER PAYING ON MY ACCOUNT FOR OVER FOUR YEARS EVERY MONTH SHE IS SENDING ME THREATENING LETTERS DEMANDING MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER. She simply wined in court and was not enthusiastic in defending my children. Best of all at every appointment she didn't review my case file and asked me the same questions we had covered then assigned errands and homework for me to obtain, (I did gladly) she never used 90% of this information and billed me for the regurgitation of the case history at each visit. "now tell me again .....what are we trying to accomplish...." ineptitude

Spent over $10k for a simple child custody battle. She didn't do anything and kept saying the things I wanted to fight for she would take care of - NEVER did! She cared more about chatting it up with the other side then me as a client. I would never recommend her to anyone! Worst about returning calls and never available to talk to. She talks down to you like she is better than you and all she wants is your money. Heaven forbid fighting for the you and the child.

Horrible! Never returns calls. Doesn't deliver what has been promised. If your a male def do not go to her. She could care less. Screwed up my case and didn't know a thing she was talking about. Doesn't fight for what is asked at all. Waits until the last minute to do anything!!

I have had several attorneys represent me in my custody fight for my son....none of them got the results that Julia did. She and her staff were always there to answer questions and I even had Julia call me several times to find out how things were going. She even gave me her home number to call if I had any issues. How many clients can say that? I know it never happened with any of my other attorneys. I read the bad review on this site before hiring her. I am glad I did not pay any attention to it. She was very professional, under-promised, and over-delivered. I would not hesitate to use her again and her representation was worth every penny I spent.

Hired Julia to represent me in a nasty divorce. She was a sweetheart to me until I handed over my $4500 retainer. Then she was unavailable at all times. In the first hearing, she was unprepared and she had her cell phone ringing in the courtroom! She didn't return my calls for TWO MONTHS. I went to her office and she got irate with me for showing up without an appointment even though I was as nice as could be and just wanted advice. She agreed to a bifurcated, no-fault divorce when my wife was guilty of adultery and I had PROOF, leaving me vulnerable for alimony. She traveled to my wife's attorney's office (an hours drive) and billed me $200/hr. My wife kept my child from me, harassed and threatened me daily, but Julia NEVER stood up for me a single time. She sat in a settlement hearing and never opened her mouth or asked a single question in FOUR HOURS, while my wife's attorney threatened me. I fired her and had to hire another attorney. She then sent me a bill for another $1,000!!

Stupid and evil is a bad combination. And her office staff is even worse. Constantly lying about who did what and they love to shift blame on each other. Find someone better who might tell you the truth and will finish the work and you will be happier (and will have about $7000 in your pocket).

Won't show up in court. Keeps coming down with illnesses and cancels hearings. If you can get her to do her work I guess she's okay but mostly she's all talk and no action. Also, she keeps touching me. I don't like that. And she even cried in front of judge in Charleston who gave her a look like she was acting crazy.

This attorney knows her stuff! She is hard ball and she doesn't back down. I would recommend this attorney to anyone going through a divorce!

What a waste. She never returned my calls. Her staff lies to me about where she is. I called and they told me she was in Court. Turns out, she was getting her hair done. She missed one of my hearings. The Judge acted like this happened all the time. I will never hire her again. It has taken me another lawyer and $4,000.00 to fix what she did wrong the first time.
